OOPS, I DID IT AGAIN: Sephora haulin’

Hi my beautiful angels! As you can probably surmise from the title (and as you know if you read last week’s post), I’m coming at you with yet another haul, this time exclusively from Sephora!

Before anyone says anything, let me defend myself: half this haul was bought with store credit and VIB points, so you can only judge me for one half of it. Okay? Okay. (I feel your judgment, but come on, we’ve all made bad decisions.)

IMG_0003

Let’s start with the “I probably really didn’t need this” half: the lip products. I’ve been on the hunt for a lot of specific lip colors and Sephora had all three of those in their range, so how could I resist? I got another one of the Sephora Collection cream lip stains, this time in Strawberry Kissed — if you’ve read my blog, you’ve probably seen me talk about these liquid lipsticks and how they are some of the best and most underrated (plus affordable!) liquid lipsticks ever.

Then I got three of the Luster Matte lipsticks, in the colors Petal Luster, Mulberry Luster and Deep Plum Luster. Petal Luster was a total impulse buy, but the other two are exactly the colors I’ve been thirsting over so I’m really excited to have them!

IMG_0004

From top to bottom: Strawberry Kissed, Petal Luster, Mulberry Luster and Deep Plum Luster. (Sorry for the bad lighting, I should have taken these pictures earlier!)

IMG_0002

And for the more reasonable half of my haul, we have the Caviar Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist, which I got with my VIB points, the Cover FX Mattifying Primer, and the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.

The story behind those last two is this: a few months ago, I got a mattifying primer from BECCA but unfortunately, it didn’t work for me at all, so I returned it and went back to looking for the perfect mattifying primer for my ever-so-oily skin. Now, fast forward to last month when I found this Cover FX primer as a point perk at a Sephora, tried it out and LOVED it, so I decided to get it with the store credit I got from the BECCA primer.

My two options were: buy the full size Cover FX primer for the same price as the BECCA one and call it a day, or try out the mini one (which they thankfully had in store) and get something else. I pondered on this decision for a long, long time, but as soon as I saw this mini of the Laura Mercier powder than everyone and their mother raves about, I knew I needed it!

So voila, that’s my haul for today. Tune in next week for the next haul post because lol I have no self-control.

Black Friday haul, pt 1.5

Hi friends! I know what you’re thinking — another Black Friday haul? Technically, most of this isn’t Black Friday purchases (only two things are) but I figured I might as well clump them all together anyway.

As you might know, I had some issues with my Black Friday purchases not coming in time for me to blog about them all at the same time, which was somewhat frustrating.

The ones that took the longest (but traveled the shortest distance, ironically enough) were the OFRA goodies I wrote about last Thursday, but the last goodies to arrive were the e.l.f. goodies you see here.

So anyway, enough chatter and let’s get to it!

IMG_7977

Let’s start with the actual Black Friday purchases, shall we? I got the e.l.f. lip exfoliator in Sweet Cherry, because I’ve been a fan of their original exfoliator for ages now and am down to half a tube of it, so I figured it was time to stock up. I was surprised to see that the packaging and the formula is quite different from the old one, and in a good way, too! The original formula had much bigger pieces in it that could sometimes rub your lips a tad too raw, and the new one is much softer but still does the work. Plus the scent is just yummy!

Along with that, I got the HD Undereye Setting Powder after seeing in a KathleenLights video that it’s a dupe for the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. The e.l.f. powder allegedly used to have glitter particles in it that Kathleen didn’t like, but her viewers told her that they reformulated it without glitter, and I figured that this was the perfect time to try it out! I haven’t used it so far, but I’ll report back when I do!

Moving on! I recently received a coupon for 20% at Ulta and I had racked up a few points I could use to get a few dollars off, so I went and picked up the Batiste dry shampoo in the Floral Essence scent, as well as a NYX Matte Lipstick in the color Merlot!

If you’re wondering what those makeup wipes are and why the hell I’ve decided to share them in a haul, worry not. The reason I wanted to tell you guys about these is because they cost 96 cents!!! YES, REALLY. And for 96 cents, I was expecting a crappy product, but let me tell you, these are just as good as any other brand wipes I’ve tried, so I’m very happy with this discovery. Granted, my skin isn’t sensitive so this isn’t a concern for me, so keep that in mind before you run out to Walmart!

IMG_7978

Then I had a bit of a cheeky Sephora purchase, mainly an excuse to use that coupon that Sephora gave us VIBs for 20 dollars off a purchase of $50 or more. I got the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in the color Always Red, after seeing Emily Fox rave about it on her channel multiple times! Once I got it, I realized it’s basically a dupe for Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick in Underage Red (as is the NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Kitten Heels, which I just got last week). What can I say? I’m easily tempted and I sometimes forget to check for dupes. But hey, at least now I know I have enough dupes in my collection to do a post about it!

The big item I got at Sephora with this order was the BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, which I saw good reviews about and am always interested in, considering my eternal struggle with oily skin! I haven’t tried it yet, but you’ll definitely be hearing about it when I do. (Also, is it just me or are all of their names total tongue twisters?)

IMG_7979

You think I’ve forgotten, but I promise I was just saving the best for last! The last bit of this haul is the newest member of my merry MAC family — Whirl! After hearing everyone and their mother rave about this shade (particularly Lucie), I knew I had to have it, so when my aunt got me a shade I already own for my birthday present, I took the chance to exchange it for Whirl instead, and I am so glad I did! This baby looks beautiful on and I love it more than I can explain.

So here we have swatches for Always Red, Merlot and Whirl, from left to right. And with that, we have come to the end of this very wordy post, and I’m going to leave you, until my next extremely wordy post on Thursday.

Don’t forget to let me know what you thought in the comments!

Shop My Stash: eyeshadow palettes + blog update

Hi friends! How’s everyone doing on this lovely Thursday afternoon? I’m gearing myself up for my second to last Halloween Horror Nights shift tonight… 5:30 to 2:30 am, oy. But this weekend will be great so not even two nights of HHN can put a damper on my excitement!

It’s not really a blog update per se as much as it is a bit of an announcement, but I’m anxiously awaiting hitting 200 followers so I can do a giveaway! When I’m closer to 200, I’ll post a bit of a sneak peek, but know that there are already two boxes full of goodies for someone to win!

For today’s edition of Shop My Stash, I wanted to talk about some of my favorite babies and the pride and joy of my makeup collection — eyeshadow palettes! I’ve collected quite a few of these bundles of joy and I wanted to share them with you guys. Let’s get on with it!

IMG_0522

For the sake of this post, I defined palettes as anything with more than five shades in it, which excludes one or two trios and quads that I have. That being said, here are all my palettes! Isn’t this just the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?

IMG_0524

Up first is my holy grail of eyeshadow palettes, the Too Faced Chocolate Bar. I got this one a few months ago as a present for my girlfriend, but before I could get it to them, they broke up with me, so I obviously kept the palette, and boy, am I glad I did! With 16 shades (six matte, four shimmer, and five metallic), this palette is perfect for neutral lovers but with a bit of a kick. The shadows are incredibly pigmented, smooth and easy to apply, and very long lasting and I love them more than I can say. Plus, it smells like chocolate!

IMG_0526

Ah, Naked 3. My first high end eyeshadow palette, the rose gold apple of my eye… I could say so much about this palette and never stop. While I’ve been debating between which other Naked palette to get, I can’t deny that I’m obsessed with Naked 3 and my love for it will never run out! This palette comes with 12 shades in total (three matte, the rest are all shimmer/satin/glitter/metallic/I don’t know how to classify them) and is perfect for a neutral eye with a hint of rose gold. The only downside to this palette is that it’s a bit lacking in matte shades, but it’s pretty great otherwise.

IMG_0527

Stila’s in the light palette is one of my newest babies and honestly a palette I would repurchase were it not discontinued. Sad. This palette comes with ten shades (four matte, three shimmer, three metallic) and some of the best neutral eyeshadows I’ve ever tried (I’m looking at you, kitten and bubbly) but it’s also got a beautiful blue shade as well as a matte black shade. I love this palette and can’t get enough of it!

IMG_0529

IMG_0528

Two of my newest babies are theBalm Nude ‘Tude and Nude Dude palettes. So new I haven’t even done a haul for them yet! I got these on HauteLook right before I started my birthday no buy, and while I haven’t had much chance to try them yet, I’m so glad I got them! I’ve been wanting these for ages now, so when I saw them on sale and realized I could get both of them for the price of one, I couldn’t resist! Each palette comes with 12 shades: they each have four matte and eight shimmer/metallic shades. Maybe I’ll do a first impressions post once I’ve had my chance to try them out some more?

IMG_0525

Now, I will admit I haven’t used this palette at all since I got it, but the range of colors intimidates me a bit! Coastal Scents’ Revealed 3 palette has 20 shades (five matte and 15 shimmer/metallic) and while it does have some great neutral shades, it has a lot of shades that look beautiful but are just a tad outside my comfort zone. I need to work my way up to this!

IMG_0532

Another fairly recent purchase is Sephora’s Moonshadow baked palette. This has ten baked shadows in a beautiful range of colors going from neutral to a beautiful purple that I’m dying to try! This was a bit cast aside as I got it at the same time as the stila one I mentioned above and I kind of forgot about it. Note to self: use this palette more.

IMG_0531

We’re almost through guys! Almost there! This beauty here is the Spring Break palette from Make Up Academy. A friend of mine got it for me when she was in the UK a few months ago and I asked her for a few MUA things and I knew I needed this palette. It’s a good mix of neutral tones but with a few colors that are just a tad out of my comfort zone, but I’d probably still be willing to try. It has 12 shades with one matte and the rest are all shimmers.

IMG_0530

Last but not least is the All About the Eyes palette from Little Mix for Collection. I got a few things sent to me from another friend from the UK and this was one of the things I definitely wanted to try out and I’m glad I did! It’s small compared to the rest of the palettes I talked about in this post with only six shades, but there’s enough variety in them to be able to do plenty of different looks! The only matte shade is the black shade on the right and the rest are all shimmers.

So that’s every single one of my palettes! Whew! Did everyone make it to the end okay? If you did, thanks for reading and be sure to tell me in the comments what you thought! What’s your holy grail palette? Which one of these have you tried? Which one would you steal if you could?

Lipstick 101: a lesson for lipstick newbies

Hello my loves! The other day, my friend Maggie texted me asking if I could write a post on here talking about the differences between lipstick finishes, lip liners, lip crayons, liquid and tube lipstick, etc. Since I do consider myself to be fairly well-versed in the world of lipstick, how could I say no?

Let’s start with talking about the two most popular forms of lipstick: liquid vs. tube lipstick. Tube lipstick is what you traditionally think of as lipstick, a little tube with a cap that you turn to get the product and apply straight to your lips. Pictured here is a Sephora Rouge Cream lipstick in the color Hot Tango. I bought this in 2013 and it was one of my first ever Sephora purchases and I’ve loved it since! It’s a perfect red with a little pink in it and what I would describe as a satin finish — but we’ll get to that later.

IMG_0008

Next we have a liquid lipstick. This form of lipstick has been all the rage in the makeup world lately, and pictured here is one of the most popular liquid lipsticks: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the color Underage Red. With a doe foot applicator, liquid lipstick looks like what we might remember as lipgloss from our younger years, but in reality is quite different. This one in particular is a bright cool-toned red that dries to matte and is about as long-wearing as they come.

IMG_0009

What else is there besides liquid and classic lipstick? Oh, so much more. Here we have a lip crayon from J.Cat Beauty in the color Red Rose. Lip crayons can be worn on their own or under lipstick, much like their slimmer cousin the lip liner. This particular color is a great red with cool undertones that would go great with either lipstick we’ve talked about so far.

Up next we’ve got the slimmer cousin of the lip crayon, the lip liner. This one is a City Color City Chic lip liner in the color Ruby. Lip liners are typically worn under lipstick to define the lip shape as well as extend the longevity of the lipstick you wear. They’re great partners to go with your favorite lipstick, because they can really enhance and even slightly alter the lipstick, and you can mix and match lipstick and lip liners and come up with some great combinations!

So that’s what we’ve got for different type of lip products. I didn’t include lip gloss or lip stains because those are fairly self-explanatory (and also I don’t own many). Let’s move on to finishes, then!

IMG_0006

First, let’s start with one of the most popular (and my favorite): matte finishes. For a lipstick to be matte means that once applied and dry, there’s no shine or glossiness to the lipstick. It’s a great classic look and super pigmented, but it doesn’t come without its downside. Mainly, the dryness. For your lips to be as pigmented and matte as they are with matte lipstick on, they tend to be extremely drying. Therefore, it’s really important to moisturize and prime your lips before applying matte lipstick.

IMG_0010

Top to bottom: Lumière (matte), Fetch (satin), Go Fish (hyper glossy).

These are three examples of matte lipstick: first, we have Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Underage Red (pictured above), which may seem familiar since we just discussed it above in the types of lipsticks section of this post. Next, we have MAC Ruby Woo (pictured below), which is possibly the most popular red lipstick (don’t quote me on this) but also the most drying as it has a Retro Matte finish (thanks MAC). Last, we have the lovely Lumière lippie stix from ColourPop.

Here we have a satin finish from ColourPop in the color Fetch. Satin finishes are great, because they’re just as pigmented as matte, but not nearly as drying, and definitely my second favorite after matte. They’re very moisturizing, very pigmented, very creamy, and very easy to wear. As you can see, they have a slight bit more shine to them than matte finishes.

Lastly, we have glossy/hyper glossy. This one is ColourPop in Go Fish and is much, much shinier than the one before. Glossy finishes are shinier, sometimes not as pigmented as matte or satin, and much stickier depending on the formula. When you wear glossy finishes, it’s almost as if you’re wearing lipgloss on top to give your lips that shine. They’re my least favorite (and I actually had to go get this particular one out of my sister’s bathroom because I got rid of all my glossy finishes).

Top to bottom: Ruby Woo (retro matte), Velvet Teddy (matte), Impassioned (amplified).

Top to bottom: Ruby Woo (retro matte), Velvet Teddy (matte), Impassioned (amplified).

As an addendum, I thought I would talk really quickly about MAC finishes. We already talked about different matte finishes and here we have two of them in MAC form: Ruby Woo and Velvet Teddy. As a retro matte, Ruby Woo is much more drying and more obviously matte than Velvet Teddy, but they’re both still fairly matte. Then we have Impassioned, which is an amplified finish. What that means it that it’s very pigmented but also moisturizing with a little bit of shine to it. These are the only kind of MAC finishes I have, but let’s run through the rest really quick.

Satin finishes are, much like we mentioned above, quite pigmented but not drying like matte finishes with a little bit of shine to them. Amplified creme are long-lasting, creamy, pigmented and glossier. Cremesheen are creamier, not quite as long-lasting, but very comfortable on the lips. Cremesheen pearl are very similar to cremesheen, but with a frostier finish. Lustre are sheer coverage, not long-lasting, and glossy. Frost are very shimmery, fairly pigmented but not the most long-lasting. And lastly, glaze finishes are sheer, with quite a bit of gloss, and probably the least long-lasting of all MAC finishes.

Wow, this got really long! I hope this was a good guide to everyone who is overwhelmed by all things lipstick. Let me know if you think I missed anything or if you have any questions in the comments!

My skincare routine: morning and night

Hi friends! I apologize for this post being a day later than my planned schedule, I had quite the busy day yesterday and it totally slipped my mind! But I took today off to write everything and plan for the next week of posts and I’m catching up with everything I can handle today!

Ever since I got this blog, I’ve learned a lot about my skin type and my skincare routine has improved vastly in the last few months. I used to feel like I wasn’t thorough enough or taking enough care of my skin, but I’ve gotten better and am a lot more comfortable sharing my routine than I would’ve been back in May!

IMG_0003

MORNING

First, I start with the Aveeno brightening cleanser. I like using this one in the morning because it just makes me feel extra bright, but whether that’s actually the intended effect or just a sugar pill effect, who knows? Mostly I just want to use it up because I hate wasting products! Next, I use the Botanics Shine Away mattifying toner, which you might recall from a few posts ago! I bought it just before I went to Canada and it’s been an absolute godsend. I can’t go a day without it now!

I follow that up with the 100% Pure coffee bean eye cream, which I got in my last Birchbox and have been loving ever since! It makes my eyes seem brighter and helps keep those bags away (to a certain extent, of course). And last is my favorite new moisturizer from Sephora, the 8hr mattifying moisturizer sunscreen with SPF 20. I can’t use any moisturizer during the day without SPF in it because sun protection is important and my skin is quite fair, so I was really excited to find one that is oil-free and mattifying for my oily T-zone!

Along with all of these steps, I use the Botanics Shine Away invigorating face scrub twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays as a week to keep my skin extra clear and not oily.

IMG_0007

NIGHT

The first thing I do at night is cleanse my face with Clinique’s facial soap for oily skin, which I got not too long ago and have absolutely loved since then. My face definitely feels less oily since I started using this! Depending on how much makeup I have on, I’ll use a makeup wipe or my trusty micellar water to remove it before cleansing my face. I follow that up with the toner from Botanics I use in the mornings as well, because I feel like it gets rid of all the excess oil my nose likes to produce and makes my skin feel extra matte.

Once that’s done, I put on the eye gel from Body Merry, which was sent to me along with a few more products to review by the lovely folks at Body Merry (that post will be coming up soon). This gel is day to night but I only use it at night because I prefer the eye cream with caffeine during the day to make me seem more bright and awake, but it absolutely works for both! Once that’s done, I apply the Clinique Dramatically Different moisturizing gel in my T-zone and the Aveeno smart essentials nighttime moisture infusion on the rest of my face. I do this because the Clinique gel is perfect for the oiliest areas of my face, but since that’s mainly my T-zone, the rest of my face feels dry with just that and that’s where the Aveeno lotion steps in!

I hope you guys enjoyed my rambling on about skincare! Let me know if you have any questions or are interested in any specific products I use. Thanks for reading!

Recent acquisitions (a haul but not quite post)

Hello lovelies! I know it’s late but I was determined to keep to my new Monday/Wednesday/Friday posting schedule.

So anyway… You might have seen my post earlier this week about my Sephora haul, and before you say anything, this does not count as a haul. Hear me out here, okay? Okay. I didn’t technically get all of these at the same time so therefore it’s not a haul. because I say so. Got it? Alright. Moving on.

IMG_6415

Let’s start this quick post by talking about some skincare! I’ve been doing some research and trying to find better products that suit my combination oily skin better and so far, these have been great.

I got the Botanics face scrub and toner from their Shine Away line at Target a few weeks ago when I had to return something else and had some store credit to spend, and I’ve been using them for however long and I really like them! The toner has been a godsend and now that I actually use it every day, I don’t know why I didn’t start sooner!

The Clinique facial soap I bought when I went into Sephora the other night so technically I haven’t used this one yet, but I’ve tried samples before and I really like it. I already own the moisturizing gel from this same line so once I’m out of the Botanics toner, I’ll get the toner from the same line and have a complete set!

IMG_6419

Then we have these beauties here! The Sephora palette technically should’ve been part of my Sephora haul, but the one I received in the mail was broken, so I had to go exchange it before I could actually write about it in a post. I haven’t used it yet but I absolutely love the colors and from swatching them, they look to be great quality!

The stila palette I bought off a friend who gave it to me for $25 dollars… I mean, who could resist that? Especially when this palette retails for $39! It’s barely used and I purchased my precious Chocolate Bar palette from her, so I definitely trust her. I used it for a look yesterday when I went to school and absolutely loved everything about it, but I unfortunately got rained on when I was going to class so that was kind of ruined.

IMG_6420

Last but not least is my new holy grail liquid lipstick (gasp!) — the Sephora cream lip stain in Marvelous Mauve. Everything about this lipstick is absolutely perfect. The formula goes on so smoothly and it’s easy to apply, it’s super pigmented and dries to matte without being drying and it’s incredibly long lasting! I wore it to go bar hopping in Montreal and didn’t even need to reapply it once. I’m absolutely in love with this, and if you haven’t yet run to your nearest Sephora to get one, I don’t know what you’re waiting for!

IMG_6418

I hope you guys enjoyed this not-a-haul haul post! Let me know if you want a review of either one of the palettes or even the lipstick and I’ll work on getting that up for you guys. Thanks for reading!

Sephora haul… because I can!

To celebrate a successful two month long No Buy, I decided that once my student loans came in, I would treat myself to some goodies from Sephora! I knew going into it some of the things I wanted, but I gave myself a budget of 150 dollars and shopped away and let me tell you, it felt great. I received my order last night and was super excited to see and touch everything — and swatch it!

IMG_6372-0

Here’s what I got in its entirety. The Too Faced bb creme I actually got off Amazon but since it all came in the same day, I figured I’d include it in my haul post.

So let’s start, shall we? First, I got the Sephora cream lip stain in Blackberry Sorbet. Before I left for Canada, I had the color Marvelous Mauve on my cart, but I ended up buying it when I was in Canada without realizing that I had already been planning on getting it! But now that I know how much I loved that one, I had to get a new color to add to my collection.

Something else I’d had my eye on for a while was the stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Amalfi. After swatching literally every hot pink lipstick in Sephora, this one won out, and knowing that I loved their formula since I already have Venezia helped!

And last for the lip products is Bésame Cosmetic’s Classic Color Lipstick in Red Velvet 1946. If you’re a nerd like me, you might know this as the lipstick that Peggy Carter wears in Agent Carter! After reading a lot of reviews online and seeing how much everyone loved it, I caved in. I mean… look at that packaging.

IMG_6373-0

Now, what I was definitely most excited to receive was definitely was the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop, AKA the collaboration that Jaclyn Hill did with Becca! I had my eyes on it when she first announced it was coming out, but I knew I absolutely needed it when I saw it at my local Sephora and swatched it. Definitely love at first sight.

Something else I couldn’t wait to get my hands on was the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla! This is definitely a case of “blogger made me buy it,” as I’ve seen so many people (but particularly Ana) rave about it.

Along with my Sephora purchase, I got a lot of different samples, which I’m obviously very happy about! I received a bareMinerals bareSkin sample trio, containing a deluxe sample of the bareSkin serum foundation, plus the perfecting veil and a tiny little buki brush (how cute is it?). I also got a sample of Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser, tarte’s maracuja creaseless concealer and a sample of Clinique’s cleanser, exfoliator and moisturizer for combination to oily skin!

Lastly, I got the Too Faced Air Buffed BB Creme in Vanilla Glow, which I also heard was great from a few different bloggers and I can’t wait to see how I like it!

IMG_6380

Here we have, from top to bottom: Red Velvet 1946, Blackberry Sorbet, and Amalfi.

IMG_6376

Top to bottom: Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop, bareSkin serum foundation in bare linen, Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla, and Air Buffed BB Creme in Vanilla Glow. Both the bareSkin foundation and the bb creme look a little dark for my skin, but it is the underside of my arm which is ghostly pale so I’m hoping that on my face it’ll work better. Worst case scenario, they’re donated to my sister, whose skin is a tad darker than mine.

So there’s my haul! I’ve been waiting quite a long time for these things and I’m happy with everything I got. After two months of a No Buy, it may seem silly to turn around and spend quite a bit of money on this, but I had two whole months to think about what I wanted and I thought about it very carefully!

What do you think? Do you own any of these? Any of them that you’re curious to try? Let me know in the comments!
