Shop My Stash: eyeshadow palettes + blog update

Hi friends! How’s everyone doing on this lovely Thursday afternoon? I’m gearing myself up for my second to last Halloween Horror Nights shift tonight… 5:30 to 2:30 am, oy. But this weekend will be great so not even two nights of HHN can put a damper on my excitement!

It’s not really a blog update per se as much as it is a bit of an announcement, but I’m anxiously awaiting hitting 200 followers so I can do a giveaway! When I’m closer to 200, I’ll post a bit of a sneak peek, but know that there are already two boxes full of goodies for someone to win!

For today’s edition of Shop My Stash, I wanted to talk about some of my favorite babies and the pride and joy of my makeup collection — eyeshadow palettes! I’ve collected quite a few of these bundles of joy and I wanted to share them with you guys. Let’s get on with it!

For the sake of this post, I defined palettes as anything with more than five shades in it, which excludes one or two trios and quads that I have. That being said, here are all my palettes! Isn’t this just the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?

Up first is my holy grail of eyeshadow palettes, the Too Faced Chocolate Bar. I got this one a few months ago as a present for my girlfriend, but before I could get it to them, they broke up with me, so I obviously kept the palette, and boy, am I glad I did! With 16 shades (six matte, four shimmer, and five metallic), this palette is perfect for neutral lovers but with a bit of a kick. The shadows are incredibly pigmented, smooth and easy to apply, and very long lasting and I love them more than I can say. Plus, it smells like chocolate!

Ah, Naked 3. My first high end eyeshadow palette, the rose gold apple of my eye… I could say so much about this palette and never stop. While I’ve been debating between which other Naked palette to get, I can’t deny that I’m obsessed with Naked 3 and my love for it will never run out! This palette comes with 12 shades in total (three matte, the rest are all shimmer/satin/glitter/metallic/I don’t know how to classify them) and is perfect for a neutral eye with a hint of rose gold. The only downside to this palette is that it’s a bit lacking in matte shades, but it’s pretty great otherwise.

Stila’s in the light palette is one of my newest babies and honestly a palette I would repurchase were it not discontinued. Sad. This palette comes with ten shades (four matte, three shimmer, three metallic) and some of the best neutral eyeshadows I’ve ever tried (I’m looking at you, kitten and bubbly) but it’s also got a beautiful blue shade as well as a matte black shade. I love this palette and can’t get enough of it!

Two of my newest babies are theBalm Nude ‘Tude and Nude Dude palettes. So new I haven’t even done a haul for them yet! I got these on HauteLook right before I started my birthday no buy, and while I haven’t had much chance to try them yet, I’m so glad I got them! I’ve been wanting these for ages now, so when I saw them on sale and realized I could get both of them for the price of one, I couldn’t resist! Each palette comes with 12 shades: they each have four matte and eight shimmer/metallic shades. Maybe I’ll do a first impressions post once I’ve had my chance to try them out some more?

Now, I will admit I haven’t used this palette at all since I got it, but the range of colors intimidates me a bit! Coastal Scents’ Revealed 3 palette has 20 shades (five matte and 15 shimmer/metallic) and while it does have some great neutral shades, it has a lot of shades that look beautiful but are just a tad outside my comfort zone. I need to work my way up to this!

Another fairly recent purchase is Sephora’s Moonshadow baked palette. This has ten baked shadows in a beautiful range of colors going from neutral to a beautiful purple that I’m dying to try! This was a bit cast aside as I got it at the same time as the stila one I mentioned above and I kind of forgot about it. Note to self: use this palette more.

We’re almost through guys! Almost there! This beauty here is the Spring Break palette from Make Up Academy. A friend of mine got it for me when she was in the UK a few months ago and I asked her for a few MUA things and I knew I needed this palette. It’s a good mix of neutral tones but with a few colors that are just a tad out of my comfort zone, but I’d probably still be willing to try. It has 12 shades with one matte and the rest are all shimmers.

Last but not least is the All About the Eyes palette from Little Mix for Collection. I got a few things sent to me from another friend from the UK and this was one of the things I definitely wanted to try out and I’m glad I did! It’s small compared to the rest of the palettes I talked about in this post with only six shades, but there’s enough variety in them to be able to do plenty of different looks! The only matte shade is the black shade on the right and the rest are all shimmers.

So that’s every single one of my palettes! Whew! Did everyone make it to the end okay? If you did, thanks for reading and be sure to tell me in the comments what you thought! What’s your holy grail palette? Which one of these have you tried? Which one would you steal if you could?

Birchbox, Boxycharm and ipsy: August 2015

Woohoo! It’s that time of the month again! No, not that time of the month — it’s beauty subscription time!

This month, because of the move, getting all of these was a pain in the ass. I moved after the first of the month, so I didn’t change my address on the websites, but I did change my address through USPS. Apparently, that means absolutely nothing, and all of the packages were at my old apartment still. After a very long wait at the post office, a very nice supervisor offered to personally contact my carrier so I could get my mail and I received a call later that day saying he had all three of my packages and if I could be there before they closed, I could get them. Needless to say, I ran out of the house to make it before five, and lo and behold, there they were!

Isn’t it just so beautiful? Doesn’t it just make you want to tear up at the sight?

But I digress. Let’s get on with the show!

First up, we have ipsy. For ten dollars a month, you get five samples or full-sized products. I haven’t been loving my ipsy lately, but this month’s is better than the last few and I’m hoping it’ll keep going that way!

This month, I got:

  • AILA nail polish in Mister Pookies.
  • Marc Anothony Nourishing Argan Oil Treatment.
  • Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk.
  • Noyah lipstick in Desert Rose.
  • Skone Cosmetics Eye & Lip Pencil in Wine.

Overall, I like everything well enough and certainly better than the last few months! I was most excited about the cleansing milk and the lipstick and least excited about… nothing, actually! I want to try everything for once!

Up next is Birchbox. This box was pretty solid and I like everything I got! Birchbox is usually pretty consistently good and I appreciate it a whole lot more now that I’m more into skincare than I used to be.

This month, I got:

  • Dr. Jart+ Deep Hydration Sheet Mask.
  • Crabtree & Evelyn ultra-moisturizing hand therapy.
  • Rusk volumizing mousse.
  • IPKN New York Pore Apple Sun Cream.
  • Laqa&Co Cheeky Lip in Cray Cray.

In this month’s box, I was most excited for the sheet mask, and probably least excited about the mousse, though I still want to try it.

Because I have no self-control, I upgraded my Birchbox subscription to receive two full-sized items for an extra 20 dollars a month. With this, I got a Marcelle eye shadow duo in Rockin’ Rose, and a Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney. I’m so excited to try them both! Not regretting the extra money… yet.

Lastly, my Boxycharm was definitely loaded with goodies!

This month, I got:

  • CoastalScents Revealed 3 palette.
  • So Susan highlighting crayon.
  • MICA Beauty gel eyeliner.
  • SETA eyeliner brush.
  • Nios Shield leave-in conditioner.

I was definitely most excited about the Revealed 3 palette, but I was happy to see how great the rest of the products look! Another great box this month.

Lastly, here are the swatches. From top to bottom, we have:

  • So Susan highlighting crayon.
  • MICA Beauty gel eyeliner.
  • Laqa&Co Cheeky Lip.
  • Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge.
  • Marcelle eye shadow duo.
  • Skone Cosmetics Eye & Lip Pencil in Wine.
  • Noyah lipstick in Desert Rose.

As you can probably see, all these goodies look fantastic and I can’t wait to try them out! What did you get in this month’s beauty subscriptions? Let me know in the comments, and as usual, follow me on instagram and twitter!

Long awaited Make Up Academy haul!

I know I said last haul would be my last one for a while, but surprise! Before anyone says anything: no, I didn’t break my spending ban already.

No, seriously.

Here’s the thing: my friend Hannah Jean was in the UK in June and I asked her to get me a few things from MUA while she was there. She was there in early June, AKA WAY BEFORE I DECIDED TO DO NO SPEND JULY. So no judgment, okay?

Okay, now that we’ve gotten that over with, let’s go on with the fun stuff: what I got! I was so excited when I realized I could ask her to bring this stuff back and she was all too happy to help me out! I knew what I wanted and she did her best to find most of it in stores, which she did. I’m so excited to try this stuff out!

IMG_0016Here’s what I got:

  • Spring Break Palette (£4).
  • Undress Your Skin Highlighting Powder in Pink Shimmer (£3).
  • Nail polishes in Steel Blue and Whitewash (£1 each).
  • Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers in Aflush and Dare (£3 each).

These were arguably what I was most excited about, and also what really started it all. I wanted to get these after I saw someone I follow talk about the ones she got and I knew I had to get my hands on some! Luckily, Hannah Jean was more than willing to help me out and get some! I wanted Aflush, Funk, and Halcyon, but she couldn’t find Halcyon (and I think she confused Dare for Funk, but it’s okay because I love Dare anyway). I want a few more but I’m hoping Lucie will get me them when we do our care package/makeup swap (hint, hint).

Alright so Steel Blue wasn’t actually one of the colors I wanted (I wanted Bold Blue) but I’m not too fussed about it as I like the color and I can definitely see myself wearing it! And I love the idea of having crisp white nails (is that a word I can use when talking about nails?) so I loved Whitewash!

THIS THOUGH. This was what I was most excited for (after the lip lacquers, of course). I’ve never used a highlighter before and the only one I have is a cream one that I’ve had a lot of trouble applying, so of course I was hella excited to get a powder one. It’s not super pigmented so I don’t have to worry about accidentally putting too much on but I think it’ll be buildable and I’m really psyched to try it!

And lastly, the Spring Break Palette. What a beautiful, beautiful range of colors that are not all nude and therefore just the slightest bit out of my comfort zone. Considering everything else I got is firmly lodged in my comfort zone (even if I’m new to highlighters, it’s still a simple enough concert), this was definitely something a bit new to me that I can’t wait to experiment with! The colors are all beautifully pigmented, as you will see in the swatches below.

From top to bottom, we have Dare, Aflush and the highlighter. I barely rubbed my finger and swiped it over my skin and it was hard to photograph but it’s there, I promise! It’s just nice and subtle but still shimmery and I LOVE IT. The lip lacquers are definitely matte and they felt matte before they were even dry! And when it came time to wipe them off so I could swatch the palette, I had to fight with them quite a bit so that’s really good too.

This picture just makes me so, so happy. So pretty. Much wow. As you can see, some of the colors are definitely in the nude range and within my comfort zone, but the ones that aren’t are still within reach of it. The purple and blue colors, which I was most intimidated about, are light enough to not be scary, while that shimmery copper shade is to die for! I can’t wait to try this out.

And lastly, we have the nail polishes. Sorry for the awkward hand positioning, it’s hard to get a good picture with only one nail in it! This is Steel Blue, which is a light blue shade, slightly reminiscent of Disney’s Cinderella. This was about three coats, which isn’t too bad for something that only cost one pound!

And here we have Whitewash! This probably could’ve used another coat but I figured it wasn’t too pressing if it was just for a quick picture. I absolutely love this color and I can’t wait to get a chance to wear it! Maybe I’ll get away with it at work.
