Très Jolie: March 2017 ipsy

Hi everyone! I just very belatedly realized I never posted my February ipsy bag, so I’m very sorry about that — but I’m back with my March one! And hopefully I won’t miss any months in the future.

Overall, I’d say this was a good month for ipsy. I love the bag itself, and that illustration is so beautiful! I love when ipsy sends bags that are different sizes from their usual, because I feel like I get more use for those more often than not!

First up in this month’s bag is this Eva NYC Mane Magic 10-in-1 primer. I’ve tried some of their other products I’ve received through ipsy and Birchbox before, so I’m excited to give this one a shot! It’s always a relief when I get hair products that would actually come in handy with me.

Then we have the tarte tarteist lip paint in the color Rosé. I have not heard very good things about this lipstick, but I’m willing to give it a shot and see if my opinion differs from everyone else’s!

Moving on — now we have the Beau Gâchis tapered blending brush, which seems a little scratchy but I’ll give it a shot, and the Chella eyebrow highlighter pencil in ivory lace. Both of these will be given a fair shot, we’ll see how they perform!

Lastly, we have the INT Cosmetics pressed eyeshadow in the color Goddess Gold, which is totally up my alley and I can’t wait to give it a shot! I love filling up my empty palettes and I haven’t had to buy any yet, since I get so many through subscription boxes!

So that’s it for this month’s ipsy — what did you think? What did you get in yours?

Metropolis: January 2017 ipsy

Hi everyone! Today’s post is all about an oldie but a goodie… I may or may not have resubscribed to ipsy, because I cancelled my Play! box and it seems only fair, right?

Okay, I totally resubscribed to ipsy!

So now that I’m back on the ipsy train, I’m excited to see how much they’ve improved in almost a year since I cancelled my subscription. I will say that so far, I’m pretty happy with it! Hopefully that keeps up.

My first ipsy in almost a year had a decent mix of products. First up, I got the Pacifica blush in Wildrose, which is beautiful and I’m excited to try it since I’ve been getting more into blush!

Then I got a cute little Bahama Mama bronzer by theBalm, which is so small I’m not sure I’ll even get any use out of it, but the packaging is cute, so at least there’s that.

Is it sad that I was probably most excited for this -417 hand moisturizer? My hands have been really dry lately and I needed something to keep in my purse so I can have it handy whenever, and this is the perfect size, it seems delicious and it seems good so far!

I was also very excited to receive the Pretty Woman nail polish in I Can’t Deal, because I’ve been thinking about grey polishes for a while and this came just at the right time! I haven’t tried it yet, but I can’t wait to see if I like it.

Last (and definitely least) is a Trust Fund Beauty lip gloss in Method to the Madness. I have no idea if it’s any good, but I don’t like lip gloss and have no use for it, so it went into the discard pile.

That’s it for this month’s bag! What did you get in your ipsy this month?

Collective ipsy: January, February and March 2016

Hi guys! After a long two months (ish), I’m back in the US and back in business! I’ve been getting down and dirty, organizing all the posts I wanted to write now that I’m back in the US and reunited with my full makeup collection, and now that I’ve photographed a shit ton of posts, I’m ready to get back into a regular posting schedule! Expect posts from me every Tuesday and Thursday and lots of exciting posts (including some awesome collabs) starting today!

While I was away, I got three different ipsy bags and while I was originally not planning on writing about the ones for January and February, I decided to divide my usual beauty boxes post into three posts with each beauty box for the past three months. That being said, this will be my last ipsy post for the time being, as I decided on a whim that I didn’t want it anymore! Actually, I think it was looking at three bags at once and not feeling particularly excited about any of them that did it.

So let’s get started, shall we?

The first bag of 2016 was this colorful number, with the theme “All Eyes on You.” The bag is cute but I’m not a huge fan of it, so don’t be surprised if you see it pop up in my next giveaway… In this bag, I received:

  • Hey Honey Open Your Eyes Eye Contour Lifting Fluid.
  • MARSK Mineral Eyeshadow in You’re Toast.
  • theBalm Cosmetics Mr. Write (Now) Eyeliner Pencil in Scott B. Bordeaux.
  • Dirty Little Secret Satin Lipstick in Vengeance.
  • Lasting Smiles Lip Balm in Peppermint Creme.

Overall, it’s a pretty good bag, but nothing in it makes me super excited to have gotten it. Out of these five things, I think I’m actually keeping three of them (the eyeliner, the shadow and the lipstick) and the rest are going to my next giveaway!

For February, we received this cute pixelated bag with the theme “Pretty in #ipsypink.” In this bag, I received:

  • VINTAGE by Jessica Liebeskind Sparkling Lip Gloss in Pink Sequin.
  • Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment in Sierra Nevada 02.
  • Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Primer Oil.
  • Perfectly Posh Best Face Forever Exfoliating Daily Facewash.
  • Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat.

This bag may have been my least favorite. Again, I’m keeping three of the five products (the pigment, the face wash and the gel coat) and the other two are off to the giveaway pile (which is getting quite large).

Lastly, this is what I received for my March bag, which had the theme “Hello, Spring!” This one is by far my favorite bag and I was very excited to see all the products in it! This month, I received:

  • Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Smoothing Cream.
  • NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Pink Lust.
  • Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold.
  • Manna Kadar Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Fantasy.
  • Margaret Dabbs London Super Shiner Buffer.

Out of these five things, I’ll be keeping three of them (the hair cream, the eye shadow and the buffer). I know you’re probably thinking, “Valentina! You love highlighters and lipstick!” But here’s the thing: I have lipstick colors that are really similar to the one I received (if I only I had gotten Soft Spoken… sigh) and I have more than enough highlighters (not to mention I wouldn’t wear the blush), so I figured I’d rather find them a better home!

So that’s my last three ipsy bags, and my last bags for the time being! I don’t know if one day I’ll cave and resubscribe, but for now I’m proud of myself for making the decision to cancel.

Thanks for reading! Let me know what you got in your ipsy bags lately.

Birchbox, Boxycharm, and ipsy: December 2015

Hello my loves! This post is super late because between my Boxycharm being late and the holidays, it just kept getting pushed back so I decided to just schedule it for my “I’m out of the country” queue.

Let’s start with Birchbox, shall we? This month, I got an eye shadow sampler from Coastal Scents, a hand cream from Soap & Paper Factory, a liquid liner from Eyeko, a sample of a Harvey Prince perfume, and a hair mask from Amika. I wasn’t too crazy about any of these, but I did like the box overall!

From ipsy, I got an eye shadow primer from Elizabeth Mott, a face mask from Acure, an eye makeup remover from Klorane, a lipstick from Pacifica, a setting powder from Tarte, and a Buxom lipstick I redeemed with my points. I liked my ipsy better than my Birchbox this month, but I still wasn’t too crazy about it.

Buxom on the left and Pacifica on the right.

Lastly, from Boxycharm I got a hair mask from Nelson J, a liquid lipstick in Americano from OFRA, a highlighter from Jelly Pong Pong, cuticle oil from NCLA, a  gel liner from Bellapierre in Cinnamon and blotting papers from Tatcha. I definitely liked my Boxycharm best this month, if anything just for the lipstick and lip liner!

Americano is on the left and Cinnamon on the right (the other two are my ipsy swatches).

And I was lucky enough to get some goodies from Jodi because I entered her giveaway and was the winner of the second place surprise prize! She sent me two NYX lipsticks, a lip balm, and this adorable card, and I loved all of it! Thank you so much Jodi!

What did you guys get in your beauty boxes in December?

Birchbox, Boxycharm, and ipsy: November 2015

Hello friends!

Sorry that this post is so late, but I had to rearrange my schedule a bit in order to write everything I want to write but only post twice a week instead of three times like I used to.

You might be thinking, why don’t you go back to three times a week then? Well, for starters, I don’t want to do that and then end up struggling (again) to write three times a week, and I figured that I can start writing extra posts when the inspiration strikes to schedule while I’m out of the country, since I don’t think I’ll have much time or want to work on the blog while I’m in Chile with my family for six weeks!

Also, it was my birthday! So yeah, that’s a good enough excuse, right?

I’m writing this at least a week in advance, which I don’t normally tell you guys about, but I’m so proud of myself for being ahead of the game that I couldn’t help but brag!

But anyway, we’re getting a little off-track here.

This wasn’t the best month for beauty subscriptions for me, but overall, there were enough items in each one that I loved or was excited for. Looking at them now, I don’t think any box particularly stood out more than the others, so I don’t think I’ll have a favorite this month. But let’s go through them, shall we?

My Birchbox this month came with the following items:

  • theBalm Cosmetics FratBoy shadow/blush.
  • Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm.
  • Christie Brinkley daily facial exfoliating polish.
  • Templespa La La Lagoon bath and shower gel.
  • Rusk texture spray.

Not too crazy about any of the items, but I’m willing to try everything except for the blush, which I just don’t have any need for.

This month, my ipsy had these for me:

  • Figs & Rouge Mattifying Emulsion and Pore Refiner.
  • Mai Couture Makeup Paper travel blush in Montecito.
  • Smashbox full exposure mascara.
  • Bdellium Tools blending brush 776.
  • INSPR Beauty eyeshadow in Carnival.

I’m going to need ipsy, Birchbox AND Boxycharm to please stop sending me so much mascara that I have no idea what to do with is. PLEASE.

Lastly, my Boxycharm came with:

  • Coolway leave-in treatment.
  • Pur-lisse eye serum.
  • Studio Makeup blush in Sahara.
  • Manna priming gloss stain in All of Me.
  • Luxie concealer brush 211.

If I absolutely had to pick a favorite, it would probably be this one, but that’s just because of the lip gloss (and probably the brush as well). I’m keeping the eye serum and the leave-in treatment because I’m down to give them a shot, but the blush is going to Savannah once I finally get around to sending her care package!

So that’s everything I got this month! Not the best month, but I’m not too disappointed either. What did you get this month?

Birchbox, Boxycharm, and ipsy: October 2015

Is it me or have my beauty box posts been late the last few times I’ve written them? I don’t know why but I feel like I’m receiving the boxes later than I used to (or maybe I’m just getting really impatient). Either way, sorry for the lateness of this post! I received the last of these over the weekend but my cousin was here and I was too busy going to Disney to write a post!

Let’s start with Boxycharm, shall we? This month, I received:

  • Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask.
  • Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara.
  • Bellapierre Cheek and Lip Stain.
  • Lord & Berry Line/Shade Eyeliner.
  • Cult Cosmetics Nail Polish.

To be completely honest, I wasn’t too psyched about the contents of this box. I can see myself wearing that nail polish but I can’t for work, and I’m frankly exhausted of getting so many mascaras in my beauty boxes! I already set the cheek/lip stain aside for a future giveaway and I kept the eyeliner because I figure it’s an essential, but I’m really only excited about the mask.

Remember what I was saying about too many mascaras? Yeah… anyway. Thanks, Birchbox. This month, I got:

  • Avene Thermal Spring Water.
  • Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream.
  • Klorane Dry Shampoo.
  • stila huge extreme lash mascara.
  • too cool for school Dinoplatz Highlighter.

This was definitely an improvement from my Boxycharm this month. I put the Dr. Jart+ cream in the giveaway pile, but I kept everything else and I’m super excited about the highlighter and the dry shampoo! I’m also very intrigued with the thermal water, so we’ll see how that goes.

Lastly, my ipsy! This one is packed with goodies I got with my points, so don’t feel as if you missed out on anything. I probably liked my ipsy best out of the three, which is ironic considering that I was thinking about canceling it after this bag. I guess they’ll get another try! This month, I got:

  • MicaBeauty Cream Eyeshadow in Bronze.
  • Lavanila Laboratories Pure Vanilla Deluxe Mini Roller Ball.
  • theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick.
  • Emité Make Up Professional Slant Tweezer.
  • Nourish Organic Pure Hydrating Argan Face Serum.
  • tre’StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon in Venetian Gold.
  • Chella Eyebrow Pencil in Tantalizing Taupe.
  • Luxie Beauty Tapered Blending Eye Brush.

I was psyched to get most of these things, except for that face serum, which already went into the giveaway pile. I’m definitely most excited for that liquid lipstick! I own at least three colors like it but I can never own enough nude liquid lipsticks and theBalm’s formula is one I’ve never tried but really want to!

What’d you get in this month’s beauty boxes?

Birchbox, Boxycharm and ipsy: September 2015

Hello my loves! Welcome to another monthly installment of “what the hell did I get in my beauty boxes this month.” I’m Valentina, and I’ll be your host… Anyway. I got a bit carried away there. This post is a little late because for some reason, my Boxycharm took FOREVER to get here! But Saturday morning, I checked the mail and was happy to find it sitting in there. Crisis averted.

I’ll admit I wasn’t too crazy about any of them this month. I won’t go into too many details before I actually talk about all of them, so let’s get started, shall we?

First up is ipsy. This month, I had two extra products in there that I got using my points, so my ipsy was extra full when I got it! What I got was:

  • Formula X nail polish in Ignite.
  • NYX ipsy eye shadow trio.
  • tre’Stique mini matte lip crayon.
  • Not Soap, Radio hand lotion.
  • Crown Brush concealer brush.

And the two products redeemed with my points were:

  • J.Cat Beauty lip stain in Blow Your Mind.
  • MICA felt tip eyeliner.

I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but after everything, ipsy really redeemed themselves in my eyes this month. I was about to cancel my subscription but I’m glad I decided to give them another chance! Hopefully, this keeps up.

Up next is Birchbox. I have pretty high expectations for Birchbox and they usually deliver, but this month’s box fell a little flat for me, especially considering I paid the extra 20 dollars for two full-size makeup or nail products. (To be completely honest, I’m not entirely sure which were the two full-size products.) This is what I got:

  • 100% Pure Organic eye cream.
  • Rene Furterer leave-in cream.
  • Peripera tint water.
  • Helmut Lang Cuiron perfume.
  • ModelCo lipstick in Smitten.
  • Marcelle Twist Push Up mascara.
  • TOCCA body scrub.

Like I said, it’s not my favorite Birchbox, but I have faith in them and I know they’ll redeem themselves. I did cancel the add-on for the two extra items though, and I’m hoping I just won’t know what I could have gotten next month.

Last but not least, we have Boxycharm! This wasn’t my most favorite box either, but it’s definitely far from disappointing. Some of these things I have no use for (the nail wraps, because I can’t wear them to work) and I just wasn’t actually excited about anything like I was last month. I got:

  • Previse Skincare lotion.
  • Vasanti foundation brush.
  • tarte Amazonian Clay waterproof liner.
  • Chella eyebrow defining gel.
  • SCRATCH nail wraps.
  • Kardashian Beauty black seed dry oil.

The brush is always appreciated and the eyeliner does look intriguing, but otherwise I wasn’t too enthused by this box. Maybe next month?

Unfortunately, no swatches for the post today, mainly because I forgot to take the pictures but also because the ModelCo lipstick and the tre’Stique lip crayon were both broken when they arrived. Between that and my So Susan highlighter stick from last month’s Boxycharm, I’m starting to think my mail carrier is throwing my stuff around! Oi.

How were your beauty boxes this month? Are you thinking of trying any of them out? Let me know!
