Collective haul, or controlling the oil

Hi everyone! As I’m sure you’ve realized by the title, this post is a small collective haul from the weekend I was in Tampa. I’m a bit surprised at myself for not getting more, to be honest, but that may just be because I saved all my money for vintage shopping!

img_0105

Now that I don’t work in theme parks anymore, I’ve been trying to actively wear makeup more because I know I’m really bad at wearing makeup on a regular basis (aside from lipstick, of course) and I hate the thought of my makeup wasting away!

With that in mind, I picked up a couple of items to (hopefully) manage my oily skin a little bit better, which is the biggest deterrent in me wearing makeup every day. I can never get my makeup to last through the day and no primer, foundation or powder seems to control the oil!

img_0106

First up on this haul is the Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder. I heard about this through my best friend Kira’s blog a while ago and after seeing it at a Walgreens in Tampa, I had to grab it — I’ve never seen it in stores in Orlando! I’ve tried it a couple of times since then and I love the scent, but jury’s still out on its effectiveness. We’ll see!

img_0107

Then I picked up the Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot Primer, which I’ve heard about a million times before and I’ve been dying to try! They’ve started carrying Soap & Glory more in stores here, so when I saw it at Target, I figured it was worth a shot! I also tried this once or twice but again, jury’s still out.

img_0108

Lastly, the most important step in an oily girl’s skincare routine — moisturize!! I only had a moisturized that didn’t have SPF in it and I’m not crazy about having to do moisturizer and then put sunscreen on top of my moisturizer, so I wanted to grab something I could use during the day that would have some SPF and this one seemed to do the trick. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and aside from the fact that it takes a while to sink into my skin, I do like it a lot and will keep using it for a while.

Of course, I don’t need to remind anyone of how important it is to use SPF on your face, even during the winter, right? Everyone knows that you can get sunburnt even in the middle of winter and that UV rays aren’t stopped by the clouds? Okay, good. I knew you’re all smart cookies.

So that’s it for my little haul today! This isn’t the most exciting post I’ve had but there are a few more exciting posts lined up that you’ll get soon. Thanks for reading!

Zoya 4 Free nail polish haul

Hi everyone! As you probably guessed from the title, this post is all about the newest additions to my nail polish family.

Last year, I found out from Stash Matters about this awesome sale from Zoya where you got four nail polishes for just the cost of shipping. Which, okay, it’s $15, but still a good sale considering these retail for $10 to $12 each. You can see the ones I got last year here.

img_0380

This year, I really wanted to take advantage of the sale, so I got eight colors for $30, which isn’t a bad deal at all, if you really think about it!

Front row, from left to right: Amal, Marnie, Lake and Kelly.

Back row, from left to right: Natty, Leah, Normani and Jana.

img_0381

Kelly is described by Zoya as “a rich gray shade with soft purple and blue undertones.”

img_0382

Lake is described as “a softened blue that gives the effect of serene water.”

img_0383

Marnie is described as “deep warm plum cream.”

img_0387

Amal is described as “a classic crimson red with a ruby red pearl fleck in the traditional MatteVelvet finish.”

img_0388

Natty is described as “a smoky deep steel blue with an opaque cream finish.”

img_0386

Leah is described as “a lavender tinged taupe cream in the exclusive Satin finish.”

img_0385

Jana is described as “a medium nude putty creme with grey, mauve and purple tones.”

img_0384

Normani is described as “sable mauve cream.”

And yes, before you say anything… these two look exactly the same. In my defense, they look somewhat more different on the website, and I had to put in two separate orders to do the sales twice… I know, it’s stupid.

(To be completely honest, I’m not entirely sure which is which in these pictures.)

Did anyone else take advantage of the sale? Let me know what you got!

Black, or should I say Pink Friday haul

Hi guys! Welcome back to another episode of the “I procrastinate on writing posts and they get published way later than they should” show, with today’s episode being about a Black Friday haul that’s about a month and a half too late. Oops.

Today’s post is the first half of the haul, containing the dresses I bought from Pinup Girl Clothing during their Pink Friday sales. Between the 35% off, the final sale prices and the gift certificate I got from my parents, I couldn’t resist and had to buy quite a few things! This will definitely be my last PUG haul for a while… probably until next Black Friday.

On the Wednesday before Black Friday, PUG had a sale for their final sale items, and I decided not to risk getting waiting for Friday in case my goodies were gone, so  I snatched up this Nancy dress in the grey butterflies print and I. LOVE. IT. The bodice has enough support that I don’t need a bra, the print is subtle but adorable, the grey is classic but there are enough colors in the dress to match with and it is LONG. Most PUG dresses aren’t short by any means, but this is long even for me, and I’m loving it! 10/10, would recommend.

Next on my list of purchases on Wednesday was the Erin swing dress in mint. The color is so bright and absolutely beautiful, and as much as I love it, the belt in mint is too much for me (never mind that I forgot belts on both dresses for the pictures) so I’ll probably be wearing it with a black belt instead. Regardless of that, the dress is beautiful and SO. COMFY. I probably could have sized down, but then the girls would probably be popping out a bit too much… so maybe not.

One of the dresses I was probably most excited for was the Harley dress in black. It wasn’t originally on my wish list for Black Friday, but after trying on a 2X at the PUG pop up shop on Dapper Day, I knew this dress needed to be on my body… and boy, was I right. The fit is beautiful, it’s classic but unique and it is so comfortable. I knew I wanted an LBD from this sale and while I would have loved to get my hands on Havana Nights, they didn’t have my size and this is a very good alternative!

Last but certainly not least (on this half of the haul) is the Harley dress in red. Let me tell you a story: a few months ago, I went to see West Side Story and fell in love with 100% of the dresses in the show. Most of them I recognized (some of them I even owned) but two left me longing for them with the deepest desire… this one, and this dress by The Pretty Dress Company. The red Harley is everything I could have wanted in a red dress and more. It’s stunning, attention-grabbing but still simple enough that I could style it in so many different ways.

And the best part? All of these dresses have pockets! Pockets make the world go ’round.

That’s all for today’s haul, but look out for the second part soon! We had a malfunction with one of the tops, which ripped at the seams in the bust area, so I had to return it and I need to shoot the pictures for that and the rest of the stuff I got (I’ll include some non-Black Friday goodies in there too).

Let me know what you thought and thanks for reading!

All dolled up for Doll Me Up

Merry Christmas everyone! I’m back again with a new fashion post and a very exciting one at that — my first ever order from Doll Me Up!

As soon as I found out that they were having an incredible sale for Black Friday, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to stock up on cropped cardigans, which are an essential for the working pinup girl (especially when your office is as cold as mine is!), so I grabbed four different cardigans, along with four different head scarves, which are a staple for any retro-loving girl.

img_0083

Cardigan + scarf: Doll Me Up. Top + pants: Pinup Girl Clothing.

I took my lovely friend Paola out to a cute little area nearby where she lives and she was kind enough to take my pictures for me. Of course, our photo shoots are never without a fair share of funny, goofy and downright weird pictures, so I’ll be sharing some of those jewels on here for you guys to enjoy.

img_0097

Doll Me Up has a variety of colors of the Tootsie Crop Cardigan in sizes from S to 4X and they cost $23.99 each, but I was able to snag them for $16.99 each at the Black Friday sale. I only wish I had bought a couple more!

img_0104

I’m usually an XL in most repro brands, but in these cardigans, I sized down to a L and they fit perfectly. Seriously. I cannot rave about these cardigans enough. At this point, I have 11 different colors and they’re amazing, because they go well with all of my dresses, skirts and tops and they’re perfect for a chilly office (like mine).

img_0109

I bought four cardigans and four scarves, so it seemed logical to pair them up to go with the outfit I was wearing (for a different blog post, but you won’t see these pictures again). I got the cardigans in the colors Magenta, Baby Yellow, Teal Blue and Blush respectively (and I have more in navy, white, mustard, burgundy, ice blue, mint and black) and I’m fully considering going back for at least two or three more! I know, I have a problem.

I also purchased their Nifty 50’s hair scarves in the colors Raspberry, Aqua, Sea Blue and Navy Blue — and I want to go back for more! These scarves are $13.99 but I was able to get each one for $5.99 each (which is good, because 14 dollars for a head scarf is a bit much for me — sorry DMU!).

Overall, I’m really happy with my purchases and I feel like a world of outfit opportunities has presented itself to me — and I can’t wait to keep adding to my collection!

Thanks for reading — did you buy anything on Black Friday?

UK BEAUTY: high street haul

Guess who’s back (back again)! It’s me, with another bonus post for the week! I was very diligent last week and photographed/wrote four blog posts, so I figured that I might as well do two posts for these two weeks instead of spreading them across the month.

Today’s post is all about some amazing goodies that a friend who’s visiting from England was super kind to bring me! If you don’t know, I’m obsessed with UK high street makeup, and it’s very hard to find here, so I asked her to bring me a few things to try out and I’m fully planning on going crazy once I go to the UK (hopefully in February).

img_0014

First up, and what I was probably most excited for, are these two highlighters! I asked her to bring me three but two of them were basically identical so I let her keep one and picked these two for myself. On the right, we have the Freedom Makeup Pro Highlight in the color Glow, and on the left, the MUA Undress Your Skin Highlighter in Pink Shimmer.

If you’ve been a longtime reader of my blog, you may remember that I got the MUA highlighter in a UK beauty haul well over a year ago, but I passed it on to my sister because I felt like I wasn’t using it enough… well, I regretted that not much later and decided to get another so I could keep it to myself instead of stealing my sister’s!

img_0016

Up next we have the Bourjois Poudre de Riz de Java, and isn’t that just the cutest packaging ever? A few years ago, to celebrate their 150th birthday, Bourjois decided to bring back one of their products from 1879, a loose, shimmery powder, and after hearing a few bloggers rave about it, I knew I had to get it!

Bourjois is also very well-known for their foundations and concealers, so I asked my friend to pick up the Radiance Reveal concealer and she was kind enough to also get me the Healthy Mix concealer! I love concealers, so I’m really excited to try these two!

img_0015

I tried to keep the makeup requests to a minimum (ish) because I know I’ll go crazy when I get to finally visit, but I couldn’t resist asking for a few nail polishes and she more than delivered! These two are the Lottie London polishes in Hit Refresh and Retweet. How cute is the packaging and those names?!

img_0017

One of the brands I’ve heard about the most from the UK is Barry M, and everyone I know loves their polishes, so I knew I had to try a few! Pictured here, from left to right, are: Beachy Keen, Vanilla, Personal Best, Dark Side of the ‘Shroom and Crush.

How amazing is this haul? I can’t wait to try all these goodies, and I definitely can’t wait to try even more UK beauty when I finally get to visit across the pond!

Hair and skincare hand-me-downs haul

Hi beautiful people!! Isn’t it great to have generous friends who have lots of goodies they’re willing to pass onto me? You might remember this haul post from a couple of months ago, where I mentioned trading makeup and skincare goodies with some friends… well, one of those friends let me raid her apartment and I left with a bag full of products that I can’t wait to try!

img_0010

There is a lot of stuff so instead of going through and describing everything, I’m just going to try and get through everything quickly. Ready? Let’s go!

  • Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair gel-to-oil overnight repair treatment. I tried this one and my hair felt amazing! So far, so good.
  • Clinique acne solutions clarifying lotion. Haven’t tried it yet, will be using it when I run out of my current toner.
  • Perricone MD Blue Plasma cleansing treatment. It’s a cleanser that doesn’t require rinsing off (kinda like micellar water) and SO GOOD at removing makeup. Love!

img_0011

  • Drunk Elephant Pekee Bar. Haven’t tried yet.
  • Drunk Elephant Juju Bar. Haven’t tried yet.
  • Eve Lom Cleanser. Also haven’t tried, but apparently it’s hella expensive so I’m intrigued!

img_0012

  • Lancome Bi-Facil eye makeup remover. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
  • First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Intensive Peel. Haven’t tried yet but I love peels so I can’t wait!
  • Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. Also haven’t tried, but I’ve been looking into adding facial oil to my skincare routine so I’m excited!

And that’s it for this hand-me-down haul! Have you tried any of the things I got? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Collective haul: Amazon, OFRA and Boxycharm

Hi guys! Welcome to today’s performance of “I Love Makeup and Have No Self-Control: the Musical.” Hope you guys are ready for yet another haul that was definitely unnecessary and could have been avoided!

(Don’t you just love my sense of humor? No? Okay, that’s awkward… moving on.)

Today’s haul is a collective haul in the best sense of the word; I collected these over a period of a few weeks, and it’s just because of my procrastinator nature that I managed to put them all together for one convenient haul. Let’s get started, shall we?

IMG_0017

For the first part of the haul, I wanted to start with the most recent one: a Real Techniques set that I purchased on Amazon as part of the prime day deals they had going on recently. This set was marked down to $14.99 (when it retails for $37.99 if I’m not mistaken) and considering I’ve been wanting to try both the sponge and the expert face brush, I figured I might as well cave and get it.

IMG_0016

Next, we have the Boxycharm portion of our haul. This LVX nail polish in the color Lemon Drop and the Manna Kadar LipLocked Priming Gloss Stain in Lucky. These were both used with charms I’d earned through Boxycharm’s point system and I only paid a small difference plus the shipping.

IMG_0019

Lastly, I caved and bought two new OFRA liquid lipsticks! If you’ve followed me for a while, you know how much I love their lipsticks and how many of them I own. I was originally only going to purchase Cancun (the middle one in this picture) but I was talking to Rachael about dupes and colors and ended up caving and getting Malibu as well. The bottom swatch is the Manna Kadar lipgloss in Lucky, btdubs, a color which I was super excited about because I love the one I received in my Boxycharm a few months ago!

So that’s it for my latest episode of indulgence… what have you caved and bought recently that you really didn’t need? Let me know in the comments!
