Express Yourself: August 2016 Boxycharm

Hi loves! Today’s post is all about my August 2016 Boxycharm. (Does anyone else do a KathleenLights voice and think “Boxysharm unboxing”? Because I always do!) The theme for this month’s box is Express Yourself, which just means I’ve had the song Express Yourself (by Madonna, but also performed on Glee) stuck in my head since I took the pictures for this!

If you don’t know, Boxycharm is a beauty subscription service that costs around $21 dollars a month and sends you five full-sized products a month. I’ve been subscribed to Boxycharm for around a year now and I actually really love it, which is why I canceled my ipsy and Birchbox subscriptions to only keep this around… Well, until I subscribed to Play! by Sephora.

2016-08-15 16.29.39

The first item in our box this month is this ADORABLE Coastal Scents Blush and Bronzer Mini Palette, which comes with a tiny little blush brush. I love the packaging for this and the colors do look nice, but I have zero need for a blush and bronzer palette so I will be selling this (if you’re interested, hit me up!) so I can put that money toward credit card payments… or more makeup.

Next is the Aloepure Time Repair Serum. I think I’m too young to worry about using age defying products, but since it’s not a moisturizer, I figured I might just start using this in between cleansing and moisturizing and see how I like it. Plus it makes me feel really fancy and adult-like!

2016-08-15 16.29.45

Next we have the Beauty for Real shadow stick in Ever Starstruck. Guys, it took me FOREVER to find the name for this. Seriously. It’s tiny and off to the side and I couldn’t find it, so I had to look it up online.

If you’ve been reading my unboxing posts for a while, you might know I absolutely despise getting mascaras. I feel like I’m always overflowing in mascaras and I usually just end up giving them to my sister since she hoards them. So you can imagine how I felt when I saw we had YET ANOTHER mascara in this month’s box (not to mention a brand we’ve already received mascara from before). This is the Doucce Cosmetics Maxlash Volumizer mascara, and the one we received from this brand before was the Punk Volumizer mascara. Okay…

Lastly, we received the Dirty Little Secret Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick in the color Phantom. You guys probably know this is the product I was most excited for, since I love lipstick and can never have enough! The color is a beautiful orange red and so far, I really like it.

That’s all for today, but thank you for taking the time to read this! What do you think of this month’s Boxycharm?

Modern Merbabe: July 2016 Boxycharm

Hi guys and welcome to today’s episode of “Valentina’s super bad at being on top of her blog,” thanks for tuning in! In this week’s episode, we will talk about time management skills, procrastination and why I suck at all of the above.

In all seriousness, I’m actually really surprised at myself for having found the time to write this post (and two more after these). My sister and I just moved out of our apartment and into a new house with my parents (only like five minutes away from our apartment though) and if I hadn’t had a couple of posts pre-written and scheduled, nothing would have gone up last week as we were in the midst of moving!

Now that we’re officially out of the apartment and in the new house and my room is mostly set up, I have my vanity set up and could take pictures for my post! This post is being written and published live (well, ish) but the next two will be scheduled, as I leave for a two week trip to Chile on Friday!

Anyway, moving on.

Today’s post is all about this month’s Boxycharm box, the theme for which is Modern Merbabe. How cute is that? I love how cute and unique their themes are and I love how this one looks too!

This month’s Boxycharm technically only included four items, but considering the fact that they sent us a magnetic palette from OFRA with six of their shadows, I’m not complaining! I don’t know what the colors are but honestly, they all look really nice and I’ll definitely be trying these! I’m also really excited to have another magnetic palette, because my current one is tiny!

Then, we have the Mally Beauty Rounded Blender Brush, which is SO SUPER SOFT, a Noyah lip gloss in Malbec, and the PYT Hair Argan Oil Treatment. All in all, it’s not my favorite box, but I definitely feel like I got my money’s worth from these products and I can’t wait to see what will be in my next Boxycharm!

Cancelling my ipsy and Birchbox and keeping only this one was a great decision — except I did subscribe to Play! by Sephora and I finally received my first box (just now, actually!) and you can read all about it in next week’s post!

Let me know what you thought, how you feel about Boxycharm, beauty boxes, life in general, or anything at all! I’d love to chat and hear what you have to say!! Thanks for reading!

Girls Just Wanna Have Sun: June 2016 Boxycharm

Hi my loves! Sorry (again…) for how sporadic my posts have been recently, it’s been a rough couple of weeks and between that and my lack of inspiration for posts, it’s been impossible to muster up the motivation to spend time on my blog! I’m trying to not beat myself up about it but I don’t want to completely slack off and abandon my blog so I’m going to do one post a week for the next few weeks until this writer’s block passes!

So today’s post is my (very late) monthly Boxycharm post. As you guys can see, this month’s theme is the very summery “Girls Just Wanna Have Sun”and even though I’m not into summer or beaches or heat (can you tell I live in the wrong state?!), this theme is super cute!

Onwards to the box! In this month’s box, we received five full-size products and there were some brands (*cough OFRA cough*) that I was very excited to see. We received a good assortment of products and there isn’t anything I’m disappointed by!

First, we received this Farmacy Hydrating Coconut Gel Mask. I love masks and even though a hydrating mask seems more like something for someone with dry skin, I’m still excited to try it! My oily skin does deserve moisture and love even if I hate it 90% of the time.

Then we got an OFRA Oil Control Pressed Powder and as you can imagine, as an oily-skinned gal I was super excited to get this! It’s not at all translucent so you do have to be very careful not to get too crazy with it but I tried it out once and I like it so far!

For the last three items, we got an LVX nail polish in the shade Serene. I’ve been OBSESSED with pastel colors lately (even though I can’t wear most of them at work!!) so this is right up my alley and I can’t wait to have a couple of days off work to try it on!

Then we got a Girlactik Beauty Precise Eyeliner Marker, which I can’t say I’m too jazzed about since I literally never wear eyeliner, but also KathleenLights likes this brand and this eyeliner (I’m pretty sure anyway), so maybe this will encourage me to get better with eyeliner!

Lastly, we got a Cougar Beauty Mineral Face & Body Shimmer. Now, what exactly this is supposed to be completely beats me, but it seems interesting so I’m willing to give it a shot. I swatched it on my hand and didn’t notice much of anything but hey, maybe there’s a secret to it. If I don’t like it, it’ll probably be passed on to a friend.

So that’s it for my Boxycharm this month! What do you guys think? Are you subscribed to Boxycharm? Let me know in the comments below!

Spring Vibes: May 2016 Boxycharm

Hi guys! Today’s post will be my monthly Boxycharm unboxing (Did anyone else read it in KathleenLights’ voice? No? Just me? Okay…) for the month of May! This one is a bit late because while I received the box on time, I took an unexpected mini hiatus from my blog — but I’m back now!

Let’s get on with the show, shall we?

The theme for this month’s Boxycharm was Spring Vibes, and I’m definitely feeling them with the stuff that came in my box this month! What I love about Boxycharm is that while they do send you five full-sized products almost every single month, they try their best to send you the high-end, essspensive stuff (there’s Kathleen again!) so you’re really getting your money’s worth in your box.

This month, I received:

  • Make Up Geek in XOXO.
  • Ella + Mila Nail Polish in Pistache.
  • The Brow Gal Clear Brow Gel.
  • Starlooks Luxe Lip Liner in Charmed.
  • PUR Double Ego-Duo Ended Eyeliner in Queenstand.
  • Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence Deluxe Mini Sprayer.

And for some swatches! Top is the pencil side of the PUR eyeliner, middle is the liquid side of the eyeliner and bottom is the Starlooks lip liner. I don’t wear eyeliner much but those colors are so beautiful I will try to use them at one point! Maybe this will be motivation to work on my eyeliner skills.

No swatch of the Make Up Geek blush because I don’t use blush and will be selling or trading this for something else (so if you’re interested, let me know).

Lastly, a close up of the beautiful nail polish by Ella + Mila. I’m absolutely obsessed with pastel mint colors so this one is right up my alley and I can’t wait to try it when I have a few days off work and take off my gel manicure (which won’t be for a while but it’ll be worth the wait, I’m sure).

What colors did you get in your Boxycharm this month? Let me know in the comments!

Cloudy With a Chance of Charms: April 2016 Boxycharm

Hi loves! Today’s post is my first monthly Boxycharm post where it’s not going up against another beauty box, since I canceled both Birchbox and ipsy and only kept Boxycharm for the time being!

This month’s theme was “Cloudy With a Chance of Charms” because it’s April and you know, April showers bring May flowers! Unless you’re in Florida, where it starts raining in May and doesn’t stop till September. But anyway, I digress.

This month’s Boxycharm brought us five items, all of which are full-size. The first item I got is the pur~lisse Daily Lip Nourisher, which is probably what I was most excited about, after the OFRA lipstick! I tried it on right away (and went a little crazy so my lips were very shiny) but I really like it so far. Next, we have the aforementioned OFRA lipstick in the color Pasadena. I was super excited that we got another OFRA lipstick, and only a little bummed that mine came in the mini tube (even if it still has 8g of product). I already have this color, so I found someone to trade it with and will receive Honolulu soon — and don’t worry, the swatch below is from the one I own and not the one I traded.

Next, we have the blinc Black Lash Primer. I got their mascara a few boxes ago and tried it the one time and while I wasn’t a huge fan, I’m willing to give the mascara and this primer a go before I pass it on to my sister, the true mascara junkie in our family. And for the last two items, we have a yourMinerals Eye Glimmer in Brown Hypnotic and an Anderson Lilley Manhattan Beach Butter Hand Cream.

And here we have some swatches! The eye glimmer is on the left, and fairly pigmented considering it was applied dry, and the lipstick on the right.

So now tell me — do you have Boxycharm? Thanks for reading!

Collective Boxycharm: January, February and March 2016

Hi beauties! Here is the last of my beauty box catch up posts. If you read the last two, you know by now that I’ve decided to cancel my Birchbox and ipsy subscriptions and stick with just Boxycharm for now. I’m open to the idea of trying new beauty boxes, but I’ve looked into most of them at one point or another and haven’t wanted to try any of them, so I don’t think I’ll be subbing to a new one anytime soon!

The first Boxycharm of 2016 had a theme called “Eyes on 2016,” which is funny, because ipsy’s theme was also eye-related. I know my box looks a little bare, but that’s because a) I think the brushes counted as two items, b) I gave away my Revealed Smoky palette to my cousin because I don’t like Coastal Scents shadows.

With that being said, I received:

  • Blinc Mascara Amplified.
  • Royal & Langnickel Brush Set.
  • Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen.

Out of the three boxes, this is my far my least favorite. I don’t do much with my eye makeup (probably because I’m not very good at it) so I don’t really care for the eye liner or the mascara, but the brushes were cool!

The next box had a theme of “Rush to Relax.” This box was jam-packed with goodies! Some of these I loved, but some of these I’m indifferent about. I received:

  • Spongellé You Have My Heart On A String.
  • Beauty For Real Blush + Glow Stick.
  • Shray Ms. Amazing Facial Mask.
  • OFRA Banana Powder Godet.
  • Freeze 24/7 Anti-Aging Eye Serum.
  • Realtree for Her.

The most intriguing item in this month’s box is the sponge for sure, as it’s “body wash infused” and has a soft side to cleanse and a textured side to exfoliate! The blush and glow stick also looks pretty promising, but I don’t care for the mask as it’s for dry skin which is the opposite of my skin type.

And last but not least is the March box, with a “Sweet Treats” theme. This one I was probably most excited about because I have yet to try Makeup Geek shadows and I got beautiful colors, and I love Luxie Beauty brushes so I really love getting them in boxes! I received:

  • Clark’s Botanical Anti-Puff Eye Cream.
  • Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Perfume.
  • Two Makeup Geek eye shadows.
  • Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Pencil.
  • Luxie Beauty Small Contour Brush.

So that’s it for my Boxycharm for the last three months, as well as my beauty box catch up posts! Next beauty box post will be my April Boxycharm, so we’ve got a while until then.

What did you get this month in your Boxycharm?

Birchbox, Boxycharm, and ipsy: December 2015

Hello my loves! This post is super late because between my Boxycharm being late and the holidays, it just kept getting pushed back so I decided to just schedule it for my “I’m out of the country” queue.

Let’s start with Birchbox, shall we? This month, I got an eye shadow sampler from Coastal Scents, a hand cream from Soap & Paper Factory, a liquid liner from Eyeko, a sample of a Harvey Prince perfume, and a hair mask from Amika. I wasn’t too crazy about any of these, but I did like the box overall!

From ipsy, I got an eye shadow primer from Elizabeth Mott, a face mask from Acure, an eye makeup remover from Klorane, a lipstick from Pacifica, a setting powder from Tarte, and a Buxom lipstick I redeemed with my points. I liked my ipsy better than my Birchbox this month, but I still wasn’t too crazy about it.

Buxom on the left and Pacifica on the right.

Lastly, from Boxycharm I got a hair mask from Nelson J, a liquid lipstick in Americano from OFRA, a highlighter from Jelly Pong Pong, cuticle oil from NCLA, a  gel liner from Bellapierre in Cinnamon and blotting papers from Tatcha. I definitely liked my Boxycharm best this month, if anything just for the lipstick and lip liner!

Americano is on the left and Cinnamon on the right (the other two are my ipsy swatches).

And I was lucky enough to get some goodies from Jodi because I entered her giveaway and was the winner of the second place surprise prize! She sent me two NYX lipsticks, a lip balm, and this adorable card, and I loved all of it! Thank you so much Jodi!

What did you guys get in your beauty boxes in December?
