Shop My Stash: liquid and cream highlighters

Hi loves! In an effort to dig these out of the bottom of my makeup collection (figuratively, as they sit on top of my vanity 100% of the time), I thought I would write about all the different liquid and cream highlighters I’ve collected over the years! I’m definitely more of a powder highlight gal but I hoarded these because my love for highlighters runs deep, and now it’s their time to shine! (Ha!)

Up first, we have the Rimmel Good to Glow Highlighter in Soho Glow. This was a present from Lucie when she and I did our makeup exchange, as I had heard all about it from a few different bloggers!

Then we have the Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics All Over Glow Luminizer Gel, the Beauty for Real Blush + Glow Stick, BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, So Susan Highlighting Crayon, The Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream and Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Pearl Bay Invasion Highlighter.

And in that same order, here are the swatches!

I’ve used a few of these mixed in with my foundation or BB cream, but I struggle to reach for them as I feel like I don’t really notice a difference when I wear them. Any tips or ideas on how I could wear these every once in a while, instead of always reaching for my trusty powder highlighters?

Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think in the comments.

Spring Vibes: May 2016 Boxycharm

Hi guys! Today’s post will be my monthly Boxycharm unboxing (Did anyone else read it in KathleenLights’ voice? No? Just me? Okay…) for the month of May! This one is a bit late because while I received the box on time, I took an unexpected mini hiatus from my blog — but I’m back now!

Let’s get on with the show, shall we?

The theme for this month’s Boxycharm was Spring Vibes, and I’m definitely feeling them with the stuff that came in my box this month! What I love about Boxycharm is that while they do send you five full-sized products almost every single month, they try their best to send you the high-end, essspensive stuff (there’s Kathleen again!) so you’re really getting your money’s worth in your box.

This month, I received:

  • Make Up Geek in XOXO.
  • Ella + Mila Nail Polish in Pistache.
  • The Brow Gal Clear Brow Gel.
  • Starlooks Luxe Lip Liner in Charmed.
  • PUR Double Ego-Duo Ended Eyeliner in Queenstand.
  • Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence Deluxe Mini Sprayer.

And for some swatches! Top is the pencil side of the PUR eyeliner, middle is the liquid side of the eyeliner and bottom is the Starlooks lip liner. I don’t wear eyeliner much but those colors are so beautiful I will try to use them at one point! Maybe this will be motivation to work on my eyeliner skills.

No swatch of the Make Up Geek blush because I don’t use blush and will be selling or trading this for something else (so if you’re interested, let me know).

Lastly, a close up of the beautiful nail polish by Ella + Mila. I’m absolutely obsessed with pastel mint colors so this one is right up my alley and I can’t wait to try it when I have a few days off work and take off my gel manicure (which won’t be for a while but it’ll be worth the wait, I’m sure).

What colors did you get in your Boxycharm this month? Let me know in the comments!

Shop My Stash: Essie nail polish

Hi guys! So I don’t know what happened to me the last two weeks but I had an unexpected hiatus and I’m back now! I had pictures taken but I just really couldn’t find it in me to write up these blog posts so I just let myself take a week off the blog but now I’m back with a post all about one of my favorite nail polish brands!

I haven’t really ever done a post talking about nail polish (other than mentioning it in hauls or favorites) but I wanted to talk about Essie polishes since they’re definitely way up there on my favorite nail polishes and I’ve amassed a small but nice collection of them over the years.

Six nail polishes may not seem like a lot, but considering they’re eight dollars a pop, my collection is nothing to scoff at! From left to right, we have Sugar Daddy, Eternal Optimist, Ladylike, Big Spender, Butler Please and Mint Candy Apple.

IMG_0003These three are the ones I like to think of as my work nail polishes, since unfortunately, I’m not allowed to wear non-neutral colors to work. I’ll be completely honest — I’ve never worn Sugar Daddy, but I do like the color so I keep it for the day I decide I want to wear baby pink. Eternal Optimist and Ladylike are definitely two of my favorites to wear to work though! The formula on these is great and while no nail polish can survive on my nails, these last really well.

IMG_0004And these colors are the ones I’d love to wear on a daily basis but unfortunately can only get away with when I have a lot of time away from work. I’ve never worn Mint Candy Apple but I’ve been obsessively wanting that color for AGES so I was very happy when I got it — now I just need a chance to wear it!

I have a long long list of Essie polishes I want to get down the road: Au Naturel, Island Hopping, In Stitches, Hot Coco, Chinchilly, Bikini So Teeny, Spin the Bottle, Boy Best Friend, High Class Affair and Shades On. It’ll take a while to acquire all of these at the price they are but I’ll probably invest in a few sooner or later!

Thanks for reading! What are your favorite Essie colors?

Shop My Stash: OFRA liquid lipsticks

Hi loves! Today’s post will be another installment in my Shop My Stash series, since I definitely haven’t kept up with it or even posted it on a regular schedule! For today’s post, I thought we could talk about one of my favorite brands and favorite liquid lipsticks: the OFRA Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick!

As you can see, I have a lot of them and in an array of colors as well. Ever since I heard about the brand (through Rachael, so she’s obviously to blame), I’ve been obsessed with their lip products and have luckily been able to get my hands on lots of them (and most of them with a very good discount as well).

The formula is very mousse-like and while they don’t dry down completely matte and are not transfer proof, they’re definitely extremely easy to wear, comfortable on the lips and long lasting! They’re easy to apply as they come with a typical doe foot applicator and the range of colors they have is impressive. I’ve had 16 of the colors (two of them I passed on to someone, New Orleans and Ultimate Red) and they have 47 in total! I’ve barely made in dent in the collection.

From top to bottom: Paris Rendezvous, Venice, Atlantic City, Bel Air, Pasadena, Laguna Beach, Manhattan and Mina.

From top to bottom (starting after Mina): Santa Ana, Santa Monica, Honolulu, Havana Nights, Americano and Miami Fever.

There are still a few of their lipsticks I want to get my hands on (namely Cancun and maybe Malibu) but I can definitely say that these are some of the best liquid lipsticks in the market and if you haven’t tried them yet, you need to. NOW.

Are you convinced yet? Let me know what you think in the comments!

First impressions: MAC Retro Matte liquid lipstick

Hi beauties! Today’s (slightly late) post is all about my newest baby and a long-awaited addition to my lipstick collection: my first MAC liquid lipstick in the color Oh, Lady! I knew I needed this color when I first saw the swatches when it was released, and anxiously awaited getting it as soon as I could get my hands on it!

I’ll be completely honest here: I’m not a huge fan of the packaging. I like that it looks very typical MAC and it does feel very solid and sturdy, but it’s just not pretty to look at and it doesn’t make me feel ~tingly~ all over like other lipsticks (like Stila!) do when I look at them. It’s alright, it’s nothing amazing, but I just don’t love it.

So as far as liquid lipstick goes, this is exactly what you’d expect. It’s got a more liquid-y formula and as you can see in the picture above, it’s got a doe foot applicator. I have to say, I actually really like the applicator because it’s wider on the bottom but the top is a lot thinner and makes for a more precise application, but the top also collects a lot of product and if you’re not careful, you end up with extra product on the outside of your lips (been there, done that).

Oh, Lady is a beautiful vampy plum color and I’m absolutely in love with it, which makes it all the worse that I’m not exactly sure if I’m going to keep it or not.

Today presented itself as the perfect opportunity to wear it out on a test run, and I’m definitely glad I did. I went out to lunch with Kira, having happily applied it before leaving the house, only to find out it had crumbled on the inside of my lips before we even got to the restaurant! I didn’t take a picture of it before I fixed it, but it didn’t matter, because it wore off really weirdly with the food.

Sorry for the LQ pics, but I didn’t take my camera out with me so this is the best I got. On the left is the picture of the lipstick after eating and as you can see, it wore on the inside of my lips, but also in an awkward patch on my upper lip? Plus it got crusty and uncomfortable, so I had to take it off before reapplying it one more time.

And on the right is the lipstick after the second reapplication and about three hours later when we were coming home from the mall. It doesn’t look bad, but it’s starting to get uncomfortable and crumble on the corners of my mouth and it’s definitely feathering really bad all over the place!

As you can probably imagine, I’m not entirely sure whether I’m going to keep this, even after a somewhat unsuccessful wear test. The problem is that even if I don’t like the formula, I love the color and I’m not entirely sure I have anything that matches as closely as I’d like it to, so I’ll need to start comparing before I decide!

Thanks for reading! Have you ever tried the MAC liquid lipsticks? What did you think?

Life update and recent changes

Hi loves! You may remember reading a post I wrote back in January about embarking on a journey to get healthy, get fit, and lose weight so I can make a permanent change to my lifestyle. It was an emotional post to write, but I’m proud of myself for getting the words out there and even prouder of myself for taking the initiative to make the change.

It’s been about three and a half months since that post went up, and I’ve managed to (mostly) stay on track with my goal. I’ve had days when all I wanted was to eat some fries and sit on the couch, but I managed to get up, just like I’ve had days when I didn’t manage to get up. The important thing is that I understand that this is a process, and it won’t change my life overnight.

I’m not going to lie, the past two weeks have been hard. I’ve managed to stray from my goals, both in diet and exercise, and work has been rough and has been getting me down. Thankfully, my job keeps me very physically active even if I don’t go to the gym or go to zumba, but I need to keep on track and keep working hard and not let bad days get in my way.

I also need to know that some days, when I don’t feel like doing anything and can hardly manage to muster the motivation to go to the gym, it’s okay to have a rest day, but I can’t forget that if I keep saying that I’ll go to the gym tomorrow, tomorrow will never come.

Overall, I’ve done really well and I’m proud of myself for it. I’ve lost weight, I feel better, I don’t get tired as quickly, and cutting sugar out of my diet completely has made a huge difference in my life. 2016 will be the year for me to keep changing, keep learning, and keep getting healthy, and I can’t wait.

Thanks for reading! Do you have any tips on ways to stay motivated and active?
