Birchbox, Boxycharm, and ipsy: November 2015

Hello friends!

Sorry that this post is so late, but I had to rearrange my schedule a bit in order to write everything I want to write but only post twice a week instead of three times like I used to.

You might be thinking, why don’t you go back to three times a week then? Well, for starters, I don’t want to do that and then end up struggling (again) to write three times a week, and I figured that I can start writing extra posts when the inspiration strikes to schedule while I’m out of the country, since I don’t think I’ll have much time or want to work on the blog while I’m in Chile with my family for six weeks!

Also, it was my birthday! So yeah, that’s a good enough excuse, right?

I’m writing this at least a week in advance, which I don’t normally tell you guys about, but I’m so proud of myself for being ahead of the game that I couldn’t help but brag!

But anyway, we’re getting a little off-track here.

This wasn’t the best month for beauty subscriptions for me, but overall, there were enough items in each one that I loved or was excited for. Looking at them now, I don’t think any box particularly stood out more than the others, so I don’t think I’ll have a favorite this month. But let’s go through them, shall we?

My Birchbox this month came with the following items:

  • theBalm Cosmetics FratBoy shadow/blush.
  • Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm.
  • Christie Brinkley daily facial exfoliating polish.
  • Templespa La La Lagoon bath and shower gel.
  • Rusk texture spray.

Not too crazy about any of the items, but I’m willing to try everything except for the blush, which I just don’t have any need for.

This month, my ipsy had these for me:

  • Figs & Rouge Mattifying Emulsion and Pore Refiner.
  • Mai Couture Makeup Paper travel blush in Montecito.
  • Smashbox full exposure mascara.
  • Bdellium Tools blending brush 776.
  • INSPR Beauty eyeshadow in Carnival.

I’m going to need ipsy, Birchbox AND Boxycharm to please stop sending me so much mascara that I have no idea what to do with is. PLEASE.

Lastly, my Boxycharm came with:

  • Coolway leave-in treatment.
  • Pur-lisse eye serum.
  • Studio Makeup blush in Sahara.
  • Manna priming gloss stain in All of Me.
  • Luxie concealer brush 211.

If I absolutely had to pick a favorite, it would probably be this one, but that’s just because of the lip gloss (and probably the brush as well). I’m keeping the eye serum and the leave-in treatment because I’m down to give them a shot, but the blush is going to Savannah once I finally get around to sending her care package!

So that’s everything I got this month! Not the best month, but I’m not too disappointed either. What did you get this month?

I’ve got mail! Savannah’s birthday present

Hello beauties! As you might have noticed, it was my birthday last Thursday, and my beauty bestie Savannah was so sweet and kind to give me the nicest birthday present EVER! She gave me so many goodies I couldn’t help but write a post about it.

It was the nicest surprise ever to get all these goodies in the mail, and when she told me it was coming, I literally was glued to my phone waiting for tracking updates on when it would show up!

First, she surprised me with a $25 dollar gift card to Sephora, because she definitely knows the way to my heart! We’ll see how long that stays in my wallet… The best part is, the gift card comes with a little compact to toss in your purse and it feels super fancy!

Next, she got me these amazing lipstick socks  from a place called Living Royal. They have all sorts of kooky and colorful prints, but obviously this print is very fitting for me!

If you didn’t know, Savannah works over at Lancôme and used to work for Clinique, so the next part of her present was lots of goodies and samples from work that she thought I’d like, including that little brush!

And then we got ALL THIS STUFF. Let’s go through it, shall we?

She sent me the Clinique 7 day scrub cream, an exfoliating scrub to use before the 3-step skin care system, which she also sent me minis of: the facial soap, the clarifying lotion, and the moisturizing gel, all for oily skin. I own the soap and the gel, so this is perfect to take with me for when I travel so I don’t have to worry about transferring things to smaller bottles!

Then I got the Clinique moisture surge extended thirst relief, the all about eyes cream, a sample of Clinique Happy perfume, the Clinique high impact mascara, which is all the stuff I got from Clinique! (No, the little jars that say Clinique on them aren’t Clinique.)

Now, for the Lancôme stuff: she got me the Lancôme Définicils mascara, two of the Cils Booster XL mascara base, the La Laque Fever Lipshine in Scarlette and a few samples, which I’ll list below:

  • Lancôme Bienfait Pure Focus Mattifying Moisturizing Lotion.
  • Lancôme Gel Pure Focus Cleansing Gel.
  • Lancôme Masque Pure Focus.
  • Lancôme Teint Idole 24hr Foundation in 210 and 220.

And then a few non-Lancôme goodies:

  • Estée Lauder Double Wear Light in Intensity 2.0.
  • Kiehl’s Rare Earth Cleanser.
  • Kiehl’s Rare Earth Masque.

Whew! That was a long one. Thank you so much Savannah for the generous and thoughtful and amazing birthday present! I absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to try everything out. You’re the best and I love you. <3

What did you guys think of Savannah’s present? Have you tried anything in here?

I know that was a lot of information, but let me know what you think of the prizes, if you’re interested in the giveaway, and don’t forget to reblog this post!

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY: 2015 birthday haul

HI GUYS! It’s my birthday today and I am officially 24 (not 25, as I kept thinking the last few weeks!) and because I’m a big believer in the #treatyoself way of life, I did treat myself to a very generous birthday haul this year, largely possible due to the Sephora VIB sale!

Isn’t it just so beautiful? Doesn’t it just make you so happy? It makes me happy, that’s for sure! I really went all out but with that 20% off at Sephora, it was really hard not to. Thankfully, I stayed well within my budget, and I’m definitely going to need to go on a no buy soon to remedy all this stuff that I got. But enough yapping, let’s start talking about what I got!

Let’s start with some face stuff here, shall we? First, I got the Urban Decay De-slick Makeup Setting Spray. This was definitely not on my original wish list, but when I saw it at the checkout line at Sephora and saw the words “oil control,” I just couldn’t resist! I have a major case of oily skin, so I’m excited to see how this’ll help me out.

Following that trend, I picked up the L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte foundation, which I’ve heard a lot of good things about! It’s hard to tell if it’ll be the right color for me because Ulta doesn’t have testers and this foundation is sealed, but we’ll see how I do. I also picked up a mini of the Benefit the Porefessional primer, because I realized the only primer I own is a Maybelline one and I wanted to try out something high end instead!

Lastly, I got the Real Techniques setting brush, which I read about on the lovely Claire’s blog, Clarina Beauty. Since Ulta had a sale for buy one, get one 50% off, I picked up this mini Ecotools brush set, mainly for the powder brush, so I can carry it in my makeup bag without it getting all bent out of shape. I probably won’t be using the other two brushes at all, but they’re cute!

Next, let’s talk about these two babies. Naked 1 and 2 are finally mine and I can say I own all three Naked palettes (minus Smoky and Basics and all those other ones, of course). I was debating which one of these I wanted more but I honestly could not figure it out, so I ended up getting both! Of course, I’m forbidden from buying any more palettes for a looooong time now.

And lastly, I got lots and lots of lip goodies! The things that were actually on my wish list were the two NARS Audacious lipsticks and two Too Faced Melted lipsticks, but I couldn’t resist getting a few more things.

First, we got these beauties from NARS: Charlotte, Vera, and Funny Face from left to right. I’d been eyeing Charlotte and Vera for a while now, and Funny Face is a color my ex owned that I always wish I’d “accidentally” kept (and actually almost did once) so I figured I might as well go for it.

From top to bottom: Charlotte, Vera, and Funny Face.

Then we have the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks in the colors Melted Chihuahua and Melted Jelly Donut. I learned about these from my ex as well and boy am I glad I did. I was originally going to get Melted Fig, but I deemed it too close to some other lipsticks I have and went with Melted Jelly Donut instead, and I’m glad I did! I’ll probably get Melted Fig sooner or later…

Top: Melted Jelly Donut. Bottom: Melted Chihuahua.

And last in this humongous haul, we have my first ever ABH lipstick in the color Blush, as well as the KVD duo in Lolita I and Lolita II. I walked into Macy’s and realized they actually had the ABH lipsticks and while they didn’t have a lot of the colors in stock, I was in love! I couldn’t help but get my hands on this and it’s a beautiful color that I don’t anything quite like it. I was surprised by how much I liked Lolita II because I’d been expecting to favor Lolita, but I’m so happy I got both!

That wraps things up for today’s haul! It’s so much stuff but I’m so excited to try it out and get good use out of it all. Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think.

Naked 3 comparison: Nude Dude, Nude ‘Tude and Revealed 3

Hi friends! Today’s post is one I’m really excited to write about, as I had a lot of fun researching and taking notes for it and it came as a request from my dear friend Kaily from Hello Kaily! She asked for a comparison between Urban Decay’s Naked 3 palette and theBalm’s Nude Dude and Nude ‘Tude, and Coastal Scents’ Revealed 3 palettes, which I was more than happy to provide!

Let’s start by breaking down the palettes: there are 12 shades in Naked 3, three of which are matte. Nude Dude and Nude ‘Tude have 12 shades, with five matte each, and Revealed 3 has 20 shades, with five matte as well.

  • Strange: No similar colors in either palette. All three palettes have one or two light shades like Strange, but none are close enough to be considered for this comparison.

  • Dust: In Revealed 3, shade #14 is pretty much identical to Dust.

  • Burnout: In Nude ‘Tude, Stubborn is extremely similar but a bit lighter than Burnout. In Revealed 3, #14 is also very similar but more pink that Burnout.

  • Limit: In Nude Dude, Feisty is similar to Limit, but a bit less pink.

  • Buzz: In Nude Dude, Flirty is very similar but more purple than Buzz.

  • Trick: In Nude Dude, Fit is almost exactly the same as Trick, just a bit lighter. In Revealed 3, #5 is similar but a darker and cooler color than Trick.
  • Nooner: No similar shades.
  • Liar: No similar shades.

  • Factory: In Revealed 3, #16 is very similar to Factory, but just a bit more brown than Factory is.

  • Mugshot: In Nude ‘Tude, Selfish is very similar but more cool-toned than Mugshot.

  • Darkside: In Nude Dude, Friendly is very similar to Darkside but a little darker.

  • Blackheart: In Nude ‘Tude, Silly is similar to Blackheart but more brown, with less copper shimmer than Blackheart has.

So there we have it! I had to take notes on all of these (I made a table to compare them, no kidding) and then do the swatch pictures in good lighting in order to get the best idea, but I love how this post turned out! Overall, out of the 12 shades in Naked 3, nine of them have similar colors in one of the three palettes.

What do you think? I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know what you thought! Thanks for reading!

Birthday haul wish list

Okay, so I know I said I was only going to write posts twice a week now but I realized I wrote this post down on my schedule a few weeks ago and I figured it would be an easy enough post to make while I work on getting some better posts up for the next week or so!

That being said, let’s go! My birthday is on Thursday, November 19, and I spent a few weeks thinking of what I wanted to get for myself. I planned to buy the stuff during the VIB sale at Sephora, and I may or may not have taken advantage of that discount to pick up a few extra things (but you’ll find out Thursday about those).

As I was saying, here’s my birthday haul wish list!

  • Naked 1… and Naked 2: I know what you’re thinking, there’s no way you need both of these palettes! You’re right, I don’t, and after this, I won’t be allowed to get any eye shadow or palettes for at least six months (sorry, Chocolate Bon Bons… you’ll have to wait), but I really couldn’t choose between both of these and I figured that since I already have Naked 3, I might as well complete the collection!

  • Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Fig and Melted Chihuahua: I own Melted Berry (well, I stole it from my ex, but don’t tell) and I’ve been wanting to get my hands on some more of these babies for a while now! I love Chihuahua because it’s a beautiful nude and it’s different from anything else I own, and Fig is such a unique shade that I really need it in my life.

  • NARS Audacious Lipstick in Vera and Charlotte: After seeing so many people (but specifically KathleenLights) talk about these lipsticks, I really wanted to get some for myself and I figured my birthday is a good excuse to spend so much on a lipstick! I want these two colors because they’re amazing fall colors and when I swatched them in the store for the first time, I almost died from how pretty they are!

So that’s it for my birthday haul wish list, but tune in on Thursday to find out everything I got!

Good news!

I took my Mac to the Apple store today and they were able to fix it and give it back, so I am back in the world of computers and ready to write up some good posts! Incidentally, I did some serious damage during the VIB sale at Sephora, as well as grab a few goodies from Ulta and elsewhere, so expect a huge birthday haul post on Thursday.

I’m going to try and catch up with the posts that I missed and schedule as many posts as I can, so bear with me while I get myself figured out. Along with that, I’ve been thinking that for now, it might be best if I only do two posts a week, since I work more now and it’s cutting into the time I have to dedicate for the blog. Once I’m back on a more regular schedule, I’ll be writing three times a week again.

Lastly, I’ve been collecting goodies here and there for my giveaway, which I’ve decided I want to hold when I reach 200 followers. I’m currently at 147, so hopefully I’ll hit 200 before I leave the country for six weeks and definitely can’t mail any prizes! What do you guys think, should I make an interest post for the giveaway to gauge how many people want to enter it and if I should hold it sooner rather than later?
