The Importance of Solidarity In Feminism

I’m really proud of my latest article for SDWSW and I’d love for you guys to tell me what you think!

I admit that, in my 23 years of life, I have gotten jealous of other girls and said bitchy things about them. I’d be willing to bet most girls out there have — haven’t you? It’s sad that we do it but it’s something that we don’t always realize we’re doing. But why do we do it in the first place?

Our society is a society that puts us against each other and teaches us to take other women down instead of lifting each other up. Now, this doesn’t mean that all women live in a Mean Girls type universe where all we ever do is fight, pull each other’s hair and steal each other’s boyfriends. Nor does it mean we act like animals in the wilderness, a la Cady’s imagined scenario.

It does mean, however, that more often than not, women resort…

Guest blogger week: September 1st through 7th

Hi friends! As you may or may not know, on Wednesday of this week, I’ll be off to Canada for six days! I’ll be going to Montréal to visit some of my bestest friends, and I’m really very excited. Since I’ll be too busy gallivanting in the Great White North (okay, it’s September, but still), I figured I would ask some of my favorite bloggers to help me keep my blog active for the next week while I’m traveling. And thus, here we have my first ever guest blogger week, featuring some amazing ladies who I’m so excited to have contributing to my blog!

I know I’ve been really bad at keeping up with my blog the last few weeks, between moving and my last semester in college starting, but I promise that I’ll be figuring out my schedule when I’m back from Canada and my life is (hopefully) a bit more calm.

So without further ado, here’s the line up for the week. I hope you guys enjoy what these lovely ladies have for you!

Thank you to these amazing bloggers for agreeing to contribute to my blog, I couldn’t be more excited to share with you the amazing posts they’ve written! Check out their blogs and give them a follow. :)

Dear Nick Jonas

I wrote a thing about a certain song by a certain JoBro and you should check it out.

By Valentina Boré

You were always my favorite JoBro, back in the days when all I cared about was your band. I always thought you were the cutest, the most talented, and the nicest one. I was so excited when you first started releasing solo stuff in 2009, and Who I Am was one of my favorite songs.

Six years later, and now you give me Jealous. Seriously, man? You let me down.

You’re still talented, and your songs are still good. You’re still cute (though I’m considerably less interested in men now than I was six years ago), but Jealous is a terrible, terrible message to send to people.

No, Nick Jonas, it is not your right to get “hellish.”

I think jealousy is a normal thing to happen in relationships, to a certain extent. I don’t know that I would say it’s healthy, but I do think that…

Birchbox, Boxycharm and ipsy: August 2015

Woohoo! It’s that time of the month again! No, not that time of the month — it’s beauty subscription time!

This month, because of the move, getting all of these was a pain in the ass. I moved after the first of the month, so I didn’t change my address on the websites, but I did change my address through USPS. Apparently, that means absolutely nothing, and all of the packages were at my old apartment still. After a very long wait at the post office, a very nice supervisor offered to personally contact my carrier so I could get my mail and I received a call later that day saying he had all three of my packages and if I could be there before they closed, I could get them. Needless to say, I ran out of the house to make it before five, and lo and behold, there they were!

Isn’t it just so beautiful? Doesn’t it just make you want to tear up at the sight?

But I digress. Let’s get on with the show!

First up, we have ipsy. For ten dollars a month, you get five samples or full-sized products. I haven’t been loving my ipsy lately, but this month’s is better than the last few and I’m hoping it’ll keep going that way!

This month, I got:

  • AILA nail polish in Mister Pookies.
  • Marc Anothony Nourishing Argan Oil Treatment.
  • Juice Beauty Cleansing Milk.
  • Noyah lipstick in Desert Rose.
  • Skone Cosmetics Eye & Lip Pencil in Wine.

Overall, I like everything well enough and certainly better than the last few months! I was most excited about the cleansing milk and the lipstick and least excited about… nothing, actually! I want to try everything for once!

Up next is Birchbox. This box was pretty solid and I like everything I got! Birchbox is usually pretty consistently good and I appreciate it a whole lot more now that I’m more into skincare than I used to be.

This month, I got:

  • Dr. Jart+ Deep Hydration Sheet Mask.
  • Crabtree & Evelyn ultra-moisturizing hand therapy.
  • Rusk volumizing mousse.
  • IPKN New York Pore Apple Sun Cream.
  • Laqa&Co Cheeky Lip in Cray Cray.

In this month’s box, I was most excited for the sheet mask, and probably least excited about the mousse, though I still want to try it.

Because I have no self-control, I upgraded my Birchbox subscription to receive two full-sized items for an extra 20 dollars a month. With this, I got a Marcelle eye shadow duo in Rockin’ Rose, and a Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney. I’m so excited to try them both! Not regretting the extra money… yet.

Lastly, my Boxycharm was definitely loaded with goodies!

This month, I got:

  • CoastalScents Revealed 3 palette.
  • So Susan highlighting crayon.
  • MICA Beauty gel eyeliner.
  • SETA eyeliner brush.
  • Nios Shield leave-in conditioner.

I was definitely most excited about the Revealed 3 palette, but I was happy to see how great the rest of the products look! Another great box this month.

Lastly, here are the swatches. From top to bottom, we have:

  • So Susan highlighting crayon.
  • MICA Beauty gel eyeliner.
  • Laqa&Co Cheeky Lip.
  • Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge.
  • Marcelle eye shadow duo.
  • Skone Cosmetics Eye & Lip Pencil in Wine.
  • Noyah lipstick in Desert Rose.

As you can probably see, all these goodies look fantastic and I can’t wait to try them out! What did you get in this month’s beauty subscriptions? Let me know in the comments, and as usual, follow me on instagram and twitter!

Hello friends! Just a quick post to let you know that I’m all moved into the new apartment and we had our wifi installed today, finally!

A few posts you can expect now that I’m back to regular posting:

  • Apartment tour.
  • June/July/August empties.
  • Beauty boxes monthly post.
  • A couple of different reviews.
  • A giveaway when I hit 100 followers!

I’m so so so glad to finally have wifi and be living in my own apartment again! Can’t wait to show you guys around!

What’s in my ~travel~ makeup bag?

You might have seen my post a few days ago about being in the midst of moving to a new apartment and the good news is, we’ll be getting the keys tomorrow and either tomorrow or Friday night, I can officially move into my apartment!

Since I had to spend the week in a hotel, like a proper beauty addict, I took the care to pick what I packed with me to bring to the hotel, especially since I had to go to my internship and I had a job interview this week as well. So I thought to myself, why not write about it? The only other post like this I’ve done was my collab with Savannah but that didn’t really have much about makeup since I don’t tend to carry any with me!

IMG_0039Without further ado, let’s get started! This is what I packed to stay in a hotel Sunday through Friday. I tried to stick to my essentials and only get what was strictly necessary, but I’m sure you can see I went a little crazy with the lipstick. It’s what’s to be expected, right?

Starting with the eye stuff, I packed my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette because it’s my absolute favorite palette, as well as my MUA Spring Break palette, since I’ve been wanting to try it, along with my OFRA Bliss Eyeshadow & Highlighter and my MICA Beauty Eye Primer. I brought my Benefit They’re Real! Push-Up Liner, my Rimmel Scandal Eyes Liner, and my all-time favorite mascara, Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes.

For my face stuff, I brought the MUA Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter, my go-to concealers, NYX Dark Circle Concealer and Evelyn Iona Concealer, a foundation I’ve been loving lately, CoverGirl Clean Whipped Creme, Dr. Jart+ BB Beauty Balm as a back up, yourMinerals translucent setting powder, Ben Nye Luxury Powder (AKA the famous banana powder) in Buff, Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser, and my new favorite product, Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer.

As far as tools go, I brought my knock-off beauty blender (that I believe I got at Ulta), an eyelash curler (probably elf) and the Eco Luxe 10 piece brush set from bhcosmetics. I picked this set because it’s easy to travel with and it has a great variety of brushes, but I totally forgot it doesn’t come with an angled brush so my brows have been neglected this week.

Last but not least, my favorite part: lipstick! I obviously brought way more than I’d need for six days but hey, it never hurts to be prepared, right? I brought a ColourPop lip primer and two ColourPop Lippie Stix in Frida and Bichette, my trusted MAC lipsticks in Velvet Teddy, Ruby Woo and Impassioned, a Clinique lipstick in Red-y to Wear, my lovely Beauty Lip Stain in Hikilicious, Little Mix by Collection Lipstick in Jade, Kat von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Underage Red, Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 104, Sephora Rouge Cream in Mr. Lover 10, and lastly, Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Berry!

So that’s everything I packed for my week “away”! What do you guys think? Do you bring more or less makeup? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to follow me on instagram!

Demi Lovato: Cool For Life

Demi pictureBy Valentina Boré

If you know me, this probably comes as no surprise: I love Demi Lovato. I’ve been a fan of hers since she was on As the Bell Rings, but in high school, I got made fun of for liking her; nowadays, it’s a lot more common and less embarrassing to speak up about being a fan of hers.

When I first became Demi’s fan, what drew me to her was how unafraid and unapologetic she was about being herself. I loved her talent and her music, of course, but what I loved the most was her obnoxiously loud laugh, her goofy personality, and her refusal to act any differently just because she was part of the Hollywood crowd.

I’ve been a fan of hers for a very long time now, but that didn’t stop me from feeling ashamed sometimes of how much I loved her. In high…
