#NoSpendJuly and bonus #NoSpendAugust

Hi guys! July is almost over and that means that my spending ban is over too, right? Not quite. I’ve been thinking for the last week or so and I decided that since my trip to Canada is so close (almost a month, you guys!!), I would extend my spending ban through August so I can save up for Canada.

I’ve been good so far and I haven’t even had to restock on anything yet, but I definitely will need some shampoo and conditioner soon. Those are obviously the exception to my spending ban; anything I run out of and will need to restock that is considered an essential. The only thing I’m in danger of running out, other than shampoo and conditioner, is a moisturizer with SPF that I can use on a daily basis.

The way I see it, the better I am at not spending any extra money on makeup and skincare products before I go to Canada, the more money I have to spend while in Canada! Including goodies from Canadian beauty brands, thanks to the lovely Stashie who wrote up a very informational email to tell me all about the different brands I can find while I’m in Montreal.

If I went a whole month without spending money on makeup, I can do it again. Right? Right.

Maybe I’ll do this more often in the future, as well. Who knows? Maybe I’m better at saving money than I gave myself credit for.

Day trip to St. Augustine

While I don’t care much for the state I live in (I hate humidity, hot weather, and I never go to the beach), I will admit there are some pretty cool places to explore around here. My friend and I were all hyped up to go to Jacksonville the day after the concert and sightsee, but even when we got there the day before, we felt it was a bit of a disappointment. Not wanting to head home early, we went to St. Augustine the day after the concert and walked around, ate some great food and saw some pretty cool historical sights!

I’ve been to St. Augustine before, but the last time has to have been at least five years ago, so needless to say, a lot of the stuff we saw was new to me! If you’ve never been to St. Augustine before, it’s one of the oldest cities in the US, having been founded in 1565. (They’re actually celebrating 450 years this September!)

We started at the Castillo de San Marcos, which has a beautiful waterfront view that was to die for.

We then headed down St. George Street, where there are a lot of cute little stores, restaurants and all kinds of businesses.

IMG_0038 IMG_0037

We went into the oldest wooden schoolhouse, which wasn’t all that great but I loved the garden! (I also really loved how they had a dungeon for unruly students.)IMG_0012 IMG_0015 IMG_0016

Then we stumbled upon the Peña-Peck house, a house that was built by the Spanish in the 1700s for the royal treasurer. In the 1830s, it was bought by a doctor from Connecticut and then remained in his family until his granddaughter died and left it to the city, with the Woman’s Exchange of St. Augustine taking care and running the house with help from members and volunteers alike. The house itself is so unique because the first and second floor are completely different architecture, as the second floor was added after the Pecks bought the house.IMG_0020 IMG_0022

This was a beautiful monument commemorating civil rights leader Andrew Jackson Young Jr., who was beaten up by a racist mob as he led marchers seeking equality and freedom to the Plaza de la Constitución.

This was the entrance to Aviles St, where there’s more stores and shopping to visit!IMG_0028 IMG_0029

And lastly, I told my friend next time we’re in St. Augustine, we’d stay at this B&B. Isn’t it cute?IMG_0036Hope you enjoyed the post! Have you ever visited St. Augustine?

Seeing my girls Fifth Harmony in Jacksonville

You might not know this (or you might, I don’t know) but I LOVE GIRL BANDS. Little Mix and Fifth Harmony are my favorite babes, I’m still sad about Neon Jungle breaking up, and I’ll listen to any and all other girl bands. So you can imagine how excited I was to win a contest from Tunespeak for tickets to see Fifth Harmony in Jacksonville on Tuesday!

I’ve seen them twice before and they were so good each time that I still regret not seeing them every time I’ve had a chance to (mainly when they were here in February 2014 and they performed at House of Blues and I didn’t go because I didn’t wanna go by myself). My friend Kira and I bought are tickets for the Orlando stop on their Summer Reflection tour months and months ago, but we got to see them in Jacksonville thanks to Tunespeak and my many friends and family who helped me by watching all the videos I sent them!

They were amazing and Kira and I had so much fun! They performed pretty much of all their album and some songs from their EP as well. I took lots of pictures but excuse the quality because they were all on my phone so I did the best I could!

For the encore, since our seats were by the center aisle and I didn’t think anyone would care, I walked all the way up to the stage. You can tell in the next few pictures that quite a few other people did the same thing, but I did get some great pictures!

These next few pictures just make me laugh so much. I don’t know what was going through Dinah’s head but the faces she makes are too funny!

Thanks for checking out my post! I’ll have a post about our day in St. Augustine up tomorrow! Check out my instagram for videos from the concert.

On writing for She Did What She Wanted and our Christmas in July gift exchange

If you’ve followed me for longer than two seconds, you’ve probably seen me talk about She Did What She Wanted, a site that I write for every week or so. Writing for SDWSW has been one of the highlights of my year so far, and I wanted to write a quick little post to explain what it’s about, what I’ve done and learned so far, and why every one of you needs to check it out and start reading it if you haven’t yet.

SDWSW was started by Christina and Emma, two very good friends of mine who I’ve known for a while. When I saw they were looking for contributing writers, I immediately sent Christina a message telling her that this was something I wanted to be a part of. She Did What She Wanted is a girl collective, a site where girls from all backgrounds and walks of life share their stories and talk about anything and everything that affects us, that we’ve learned from, and that we want other girls to know.

It’s certainly special to be a part of a group of girls who are all incredibly smart, who have beautiful minds and souls, and who create content that I regularly look forward to reading. When I first joined the site, there were only a handful of us, but we’ve grown to be a staff of 21, plus guest writers and contributors who send in their words and works to us. Watching the site grow has been a privilege and something I’m so happy to have gotten to witness and I can’t wait to see where it goes next. It truly is a labor of hard work and love from Christina, Emma, and the rest of the girls.

We had a little SDWSW Christmas in July gift exchange with the girls from the site and I was so excited to see a package for me in my mailbox yesterday! Turns out the lovely Majelle was my Secret Santa and she really nailed my present because I love everything and it’s absolutely perfect.

First, she got me a 16-month planner that is absolutely adorable and I can’t wait until I can start using it! Coincidentally, it starts the week that I start school, which couldn’t have been more perfect.

IMG_0012She also got me two different Kate Moss for Rimmel lipsticks and the colors are absolutely perfect and I don’t have anything like it already (which is a hard feat if you know just how much lipstick I own). I got the colors 104 and 107 and I’m in love!

I’m so happy with my presents and I can’t wait to try out my new lipsticks! You guys know nothing makes me happier than a good new lipstick.

I’ll be in Jacksonville for a concert until tomorrow but except a post tomorrow or Thursday about my adventures and the concert I’ll be going to tonight. Feel free to follow my adventures on instagram until then!

The Beauty Blogger Award

The lovely Stashie was kind enough to tag me in the Beauty Blogger Award so I figured I’d type this up during my lunch break at my internship and answer some questions. After all, I do love talking about myself. ;)

The Beauty Blogger Award Rules:
1) State the name of the blogger that nominated you.
2) Answer the questions you were given.
3) Nominate 10 people whose blog is about beauty or fashion.
4) Make 10 questions for your nominees to answer.
5) Let the bloggers know that you nominated them.

Here are the questions from Stashie!

1. How do you do your eyebrows? I fill the ends in with one of the colors from my Chocolate Bar palette and define them a bit with an angled brush!
2. Name a lipstick that you can apply without a mirror. I know I’ve done this before but I can’t think of what it was so I’m gonna guess it’d be Velvet Teddy.
3. When you wear makeup, do you typically play up your eyes or your lips? Definitely lips! Anyone who knows me knows I love me some lipstick.
4. Are you a fan of the hair style where one side is shaved? Yeah, I think it looks really cool! I would never do it on me though.
5. What’s your favourite liquid eye liner? I’m terrible with liquid liner, so none.
6. When was the last time you washed your makeup brushes? …um.
7. Your best tip for keeping your makeup from melting off in the summer heat? Don’t wear any.
8. Preferred nail shape: square, pointed, rounded or squoval? Rounded!
9. Lipgloss or lipstick? Lipstick, duh.
10. What was the last makeup related present you received? I got a really nice Lancome foundation from my cousin’s sister-in-law but it was the wrong color.

I’m going to copy Savannah’s idea and instead of tagging anyone, I’m gonna list a few of my favorite blogs for you guys to check out!

This is basically #squadgoals:

Check out these lovely ladies and make sure to follow them if you don’t already! Happy Monday and have a good week. :)

Fitness challenge with Savannah: week two update

Hi guys! How’s everyone doing? I hope you’ve all enjoyed your weekends and are ready to go back to work, school, or whatever it is you have on Monday!

I’m here with another update on my fitness challenge with Savannah. But first, I’d like to apologize for the lack of activity on my blog the last few weeks. I’ve had a lot going on with work, my internships, and my personal life, and that has meant a lot of slacking on the blog front lately. I’m moving into a new apartment next week but hopefully once that’s done, I’ll be able to have three or four posts up every week, instead of just one or two!

That being said, my busy week also affected the fitness challenge as well, so I ended up leaving my work outs until the very last minute, and then I ended up getting sick. Go figure. I had a really bad sore throat the last couple of days but it looks like I’m finally starting to get better, and this coming week, I’m going to make sure to schedule a time to go to the gym so I don’t leave everything until the very last minute again.

Thankfully, my job is very physically active, so between that and being careful about what I eat and using MyFitnessPal to keep track of everything, I didn’t do too bad this week, which makes up for missing my workouts a little bit, right?

That’ll be all from me today, hopefully I’ll have a beauty-related post or two coming your way this week!

Birchbox, Boxycharm, and ipsy: July 2015

Hi guys! Sorry for the awful delay in this post, I was meant to have it up Tuesday but this week has just been a lot of everything happening and I just kept missing my chance to write this! I told myself I had to write it today at the very latest and here I am now… just three days late.

The middle of the month is usually the best for me because it’s when I get all my beauty boxes! I currently have ipsy, Birchbox and Boxycharm, and I love them all enough to be willing to excuse spending this much money on them. Oops? (I just upgraded my Birchbox to get two full sized items, too, I have no shame.)

In all honesty, I’m probably going to cancel one of them by the end of the year if I find that I can’t really afford all of them at the same time, but until then, I’ll just keep them because it makes me happy! Let’s get started, shall we?

IMG_0003Up first is Birchbox. The design of this month’s box is absolutely precious and I love it! Two of these are things I’ve already received before from ipsy (Benefit they’re real mascara and Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion skin exfoliant, which I think I might have even received in a Birchbox in 2013 too) but I’m really excited about the other three! I got a dry texturizing spray from OribeStila stay all day liquid lipstick in the shade Venizia, and Coola cucumber moisturizer with SPF 15 in it.

IMG_0004In this month’s ipsy, I received Octavio sea salt spray, OFRA eyeshadow and highlighter in Bliss, Vasanti enzymatic face rejuvenator (which I got from Birchbox in May), Be a Bombshell lip balm in french kiss, and tarte deluxe Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer. I have zero use for the bronzer, so that’s going to Savannah when I send her a care package! This month was a bit disappointing for ipsy, I have no use for the sea salt spray and I don’t care for the lip balm, so the only thing I’m really excited to try will be the eyeshadow. If ipsy continues like this, it’s probably going to be the subscription to go!

IMG_0005Lastly, Boxycharm! I got a Vasanti blush brush, OFRA eyebrow pencil, yourMinerals setting powder, gorge daily hair spray, and MDMflow mascara. Overall, this wasn’t a bad box and definitely not something I’d cancel my subscription for, but I wasn’t all too impressed either.

Between these three, Birchbox definitely wins my favorite this month, if anything because I would use all of these and I was actually excited about three out of the five. Boxycharm would be in second place because while nothing makes me particularly excited, it’s all good stuff, and ipsy falls into last place. Here’s to hoping that next month’s ipsy is better!

Thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments what you got in your beauty boxes this month and don’t forget to follow me on instagram and twitter.
