30 days of lipstick: days 26 through 30

IT’S FINALLY DONE! FINALLY! I’m so glad I did this but I’m so tired of remembering to put on lipstick and take a selfie every day, because as much as I love doing both of those things, I don’t actually ever remember to do them every single day. Plus I can’t/don’t wear a lot of lipstick at work and it made this challenge a lot harder since I work three or four days a week! But I did it and I’m done and I can celebrate by beginning to plan my next lipstick series.

So here we go, onto the last days of the 30 days of lipstick challenge!

Day twenty six: Clinique High Impact Lip Color in Red-y to Wear

I got this from an aunt a while ago and while I’ve tried it once or twice, I can’t remember ever wearing it, so I put it in my pile of lipsticks for the challenge. Turns out I actually love the color and this might be up there with my favorite red lipsticks (and I’m definitely a red lipstick type of girl so I have a lot). It stays so well and the color is just amazing, I love it!

Day twenty seven: NYX Matte Lipstick in Perfect Red

This is one of those lipsticks that I probably didn’t need but I love nonetheless. I’ve tried it on but I’ve never actually worn it before, so I wore it with my Chile jersey the other night and I loved the look! Much like the other matte lipsticks NYX has, it’s kind of drying, but if worn with primer isn’t too bad.

Day twenty eight: Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Stoplight Red

A lot of reds in this post apparently, because I unknowingly decided to leave all the reds for last? (Well… there were a lot of reds before this too.) I love Wet N Wild lipstick and this was no exception, but I also end up a little disgruntled with the round tip on the lipstick. I like tips with a bit of shape to make it easier to apply around the corner of my lips and the cupid’s bow and I always end up with a lot of lipstick on my fingers from trying to fix it. Other than that, I really did like this color and it looked great on!

Day twenty nine: Wet N Wild MegaLast Lip Color in Red Velvet

I really don’t have much more to say that I didn’t say about Stoplight Red. This was a slightly brighter red (which is kind of hard to see in the picture) but I really did like wearing it and I could see myself wearing it again. I had it on all through lunch and it stayed and barely even smudged, which is of course a huge plus.

Day thirty: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Wifey

Last but not least, we have one more ColourPop on the list. I’ll admit I wasn’t too iffy on this one just from looking at the tube, but once I put it on, I fell in love! It’s hard to see how true the color is with the filter but it’s a beautiful bright pink. Depending on the light, it can look a bit more pastel or brighter but either way, I love it! It’s a satin finish which is my favorite after matte finishes from ColourPop, and I would absolutely wear this again!

So that’s all! We’re done! Finished! How excited are you? I’m so very excited, not gonna lie. Now it’s time to start planning for my next lipstick-related post. Who’s excited to read that?

My first (kinda) Birchbox: June 2015

Once upon a time, back in 2013, I subscribed to Birchbox through a friend who turned me onto beauty subscriptions. I was all for it, but then I discovered ipsy, and after a few months with both, decided I wanted to keep ipsy and cancel my Birchbox.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, and I caved and resubscribed to Birchbox. I went to check the mail the other day, and I was really happy to see my Birchbox waiting for me in my mailbox!

The theme of this box is adventure, and I gotta say, I was so excited to see how the design of the boxes has changed! When I first signed up, they were plain cardboard boxes with just the Birchbox name on the box.

IMG_0016Onto the box! I haven’t used any of these so no reviews for now, I’ll just be listing them until I actually try them out and write a post about them later.

  • Vasanti BrightenUp! face rejuvenator.
  • Egyptian Magic all purpose skin cream.
  • Supergoop! city sunscreem serum.
  • Dr. Jart+ BB Beauty Balm.
  • Marcelle waterproof eyeliner.
  • Pura Vida bracelet headband.

IMG_0018Overall, I’m pretty excited with most of this. The headband looks super cute and I’m excited to try it! And I just ran out of the last sample of sunscreen I got, so the one I got in this should be cool. Not sure what the Egyptian Magic thing is supposed to do, and I’m not entirely fussed by the BB cream and the eyeliner, but I would still call this Birchbox a success!

If you want to sign up for Birchbox, it’s a beauty subscription box that costs 10 dollars a month for my U.S. friends. If you click this link, it’ll direct you to the page to sign up and I get points from it, so that’d be super duper awesome.

Do you have birchbox? What’d you get this month? Let me know in the comments! And as always, don’t forget to follow me on instagram and twitter!

What’s in my bag? A collab with Savannah from Beauty Bunny

If you don’t know already, one of my favorite people (and official blog bestie as of the other night!) is Savannah from Beauty Bunny. After Lucie and I did our collab the other week, I asked Savannah if she wanted to do one as well and we decided, after hours of brainstorm (jk!) that we would do a post about what’s in our bags. Click here to read her post about this!

IMG_0008Let’s start with the bag. I don’t know what brand it is, but I got it at Marshall’s (maybe?) after Christmas, because my parents and my older brother got me really two really similar black bags, so I exchanged one and a dress I got that didn’t fit me and got this purse and a brown one instead. I absolutely love it! I’ve been carrying it for a few months and I’d usually be tired now but I haven’t wanted to switch it out yet.

In this picture, we have:

  • My sunglasses! They’re my precious babies and I take more care of them than anything else. If I’m not wearing them, they’re in that case!
  • My wallet, which I got at Kohl’s a few years ago. It’s super cute but you can tell it’s starting to wear, so it might be time to get a new one.
  • Figs & Rouge Mango & Mandarin hand cream. I got this in my ipsy a while back, and it’s my go-to. It lives in my purse and I love it because it’s moisturizing and so light, but I’m also almost out.
  • Pens, because what kind of journalist doesn’t carry those around? I usually have two or three in here.
  • My press pass for my internship at Watermark. They got my last name wrong (it’s Boré, Fellay is my second last name but I don’t go by both) but it’s okay, because it still makes me feel super cool.
  • Magic Band! Because I’m a Disney passholder, and if I don’t have my Magic Band in my purse, how can I have impromptu Disney trips?
  • A hair bow, because that’s obviously a necessity. Also, I may have forgotten to take it out last time I wore it.

And in this one, we have:

  • An iPhone charger that works about 50% of the time, but it’s my backup so it stays in my purse.
  • Notebooks! The one under the charger is the one I use for my internships, to take notes during interviews, etc. The Gryffindor one I usually have with me at work in case I think of anything I need to write down, and the polka dot one is where I write all my to-do lists. The black and white one underneath is actually my planner, and this also goes everywhere with me.
  • A polka dot mirror from Forever 21, in case my phone isn’t handy to check my lipstick or my makeup.
  • A Contigo bottle that I got at Target for 12 dollars, because hydration is important, especially when you live in Florida and work in theme parks.

Untitled 2

I’m sure you’re all surprised that there weren’t any lip products in here. I’m actually really good about taking them out of my purse and putting them away, because I’d hate to misplace any! I do have one that you can see in the image above: that green holder that says MAST on it is a chapstick holder where I carry my (usually) Burt’s Bees in. It goes on my Gryffindor lanyard that I use for my car keys, so there’s no chance I’ll forget it at home. Also on my lanyard are my Universal ID and the wristband I got when I saw One Direction in November.

Head over to Savannah’s blog to check out her post about it, and don’t forget to follow her! She’s awesome and I love her and you will to. Let me know what you guys think, or if you’d be interested in doing a collab! And as always, follow me on instagram and twitter! Thanks for reading!!

On marriage equality, LGBT+ rights, and why I can’t stop crying

If you live under a rock or just haven’t paid attention, you might have missed that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality, making it now legal in every state for two people, regardless of gender identities, to get married. This is huge news, and if it’s something you take issue with, kindly unfollow me right now, because this is not the place for you.

On that note, today has been a rollercoaster of a day. I’m running on three hours of sleep and I’ve been emotional, happy, sad, angry, happy again, and cried through most of it. But now, I just want to be happy. I want to celebrate and revel in the knowledge that one day, I’ll be able to get married in the U.S. and that marriage will be valid and recognized across the whole country.

It’s a huge deal, it’s great news and a historic moment. It’s a step in the right direction, but there’s still work left to do. I don’t want to elaborate on this too much because I really do want to just celebrate right now, but don’t forget that there is more to LGBT+ rights than marriage equality, and our fight isn’t over yet.

When I was a kid, no one told me it was okay to be queer. No one said to me that if I wanted to like boys, girls, both, or neither, any of those options were okay. So I struggled a lot with my sexuality and didn’t fully come to terms with it until I was 20. But now that I’m 23, I don’t question it anymore, because I know I am and always will be gay.

What happened today means that other little girls who might go through what I went through will also grow up in a more accepting country. Children born today will never have known a country where marriage equality wasn’t legal. And every day, we’re getting just a little bit closer to where we’re meant to be.

I wish I could go back and save myself the years of anguish, of trying to make myself someone I wasn’t and fit into a box that wasn’t for me. I can’t, but I will sleep a little better tonight knowing that the world just got a little better, a little happier, and a little more colorful.

30 days of lipstick: days 21 through 25

Can you guys believe we only have two more of these posts left?! I can’t!!

Day twenty one: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Frenchie

It seems I have a recurring trend of buying too many bright red lipsticks, and I’ll admit this was definitely one of those examples. Regardless, I really do like it and I can see myself wearing it a lot! It’s fairly reminiscent of Lady Danger, but it looks a bit more red than that (Lady Danger has always seemed a bit more orange to me), so it’s enough of a difference I can justify both… right?

Day twenty two: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Bichette

This was such a beautiful color and I’ve been wanting to wear it for a while. It was perfect for my internship outfit with a white blouse and my burgundy skirt! It stayed all day and I only reapplied it after eating. It’s a color totally suited for fall and winter but when have I listened to that? I’ll keep wearing it in the middle of summer, thank you.

Day twenty three: Lancome Rouge Superbe in Sun Touched Terra

This one, I’ll admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of. It’s not that the lipstick looked bad on and it stayed really, really well, but I just wasn’t a fan of how it looked on me? So pass.

Day twenty four: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Go Fish

I have to admit I tried this one the other day (the day I wore the NYX Butter Lipstick in Pop, whenever that was) and I didn’t like it, so I switched it out for a different one instead. Trying it a second time around went much better! I don’t know what the difference was, but it just felt a lot nicer on my lips and it looked much, much better.

Day twenty five: ColourPop Lippie Stix in Bossy

Isn’t this name just so amazing? It was one of the things that attracted me to this lipstick when I first bought it. It’s a bright red matte lip that just looks and feels amazing and I love wearing it! I’m wearing it to a theme park today, so we’ll see if it stands that test, but I have high hopes.

What’d you guys think? Any lipsticks you’ve tried before? Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to follow me on instagram and twitter.

Friday night adventures: Target and face masks

The other day, I was settled in for the night, watching the Chile vs. Bolivia match when my friend Erika texted me saying she wanted to go to Ulta and buy lipstick and well, who am I to say no to that, right? Except Ulta was closing in 30 minutes, so we went to Target instead. I made her drive so I could leave my wallet at home and not risk spending money, and into Target we went!

We looked at makeup and lipstick, of course, and as usual, I swatched two or three different lipsticks on my arm as I tend to. Erika ended up buying two Maybelline lipstick (Untainted Spice and Touch of Spice) and some makeup removing wipes, and right before we were about to leave, we stumbled upon these cute little packages and decided to have an impromptu pampering night.

IMG_0001Erika got the tea tree and witch hazel mud mask, and I got the lavender aromatherapy mask. We slabbed it all on and debated whether we wanted to get sushi, go to McDonalds with masks on, or just stay at home and wait until we’d taken them off. We almost went out but we ended up just staying at home and talking about our coworkers while waiting to take off the masks.

Erika takes all the attention away from me, which is why my camera focused on her and not me. :( The masks felt really nice going on and I really really liked the smell of mine (the lavender one). I didn’t sniff Erika’s face unfortunately, but I’m sure hers smelled just as good!

IMG_0003 1And here we are with our fresh faces! After ten minutes or so, my face had gotten tingly and a little like it was on the verge of burning, but it never got past that so I didn’t take it off early or anything. Once I did, my skin felt really dry but it definitely felt clean, so once I had moisturized, my face felt great! The masks we got were only two dollars for a one time use pouch and an easy way to have a girls’ night with cliche face masks. Que Bella Beauty has a lot of other masks that I think we’re definitely going to try later on!

Have you ever heard or tried Que Bella face masks? Let me know what you think! And don’t forget to follow me on instagram and twitter.

Lipstick Addicts Anonymous, a collab with Lucie

It’s become a running joke between Lucie and I that we are lipstick addicts, and we are not ashamed of it! I think at this point, Lucie expects me to comment on any post she makes about lipstick (especially when she gets new MAC lipstick) to discuss it further. So when we originally talked about doing a collab, we knew it had to be something about lipstick!

Not wanting to do something like a top five, since Lucie just did one with Ana, we decided to do this instead.

What is this, you ask? We divided our lipstick into five categories (reds, purples, corals, pinks and nudes) and picked our favorites from each!

Let me tell you, this was probably the hardest decision I’ve had to make and it felt like picking between my children or something equally ridiculous. But I powered through it and voila, here are my five choices!

You guys don’t want to know how long it took to get this picture.

  • Reds: This one was arguably the hardest one to choose, but I had to go with what was probably my first good red lipstick. This is Sephora Rouge in Hot Tango, and I bought it way back in 2011 at the Sephora in CityPlace (West Palm, what up). It’s amazing quality, stays really well, and it’s soooo soft and smooth when it goes on, I just love it! Plus the color really suits me. I feel like I don’t hear a lot of people talk about Sephora makeup but this lipstick is totally underrated and one of my faves.
  • Purples: You’ve probably already seen me talk about this one, but I just love it so! This is Little Mix by Collection in Perrie, a beautiful slightly pastel-ish light purple that goes on so smoothly and stays forever. For how cheap this was (£2.99, or $4.75), it’s a great purchase and I never regret it. Mind you, I picked this over MAC’s Heroine, if that tells you how much I love it.
  • Corals: This was pretty much a no-brainer, because I don’t have a lot of corals (only three or four) and it’s the best one of them all. This is bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Light It Up, and I’m obsessed. The color is so bright and beautiful, absolutely perfect for summer (but to be honest, I wear this whenever I want, even in the fall), and the pigmentation is perfect, and it doesn’t feel drying at all! I can’t rave about this enough. The best part is I got it with ipsy points, so I didn’t even pay for it!
  • Pinks: This was also a no-brainer, because I absolutely love this lipstick and I would wear it every day if I could. This is MAC’s Impassioned, a bright pink which is totally up my alley! The last time I wore this, it stayed all day without budging even when I ate or drank. I barely needed to touch it up at all, which is saying a lot when I compulsively touch up my lipstick every other day! 10/10, would recomment.
  • Nudes: Last but not least, my holy grail nude lipstick. I totally have Lucie to thank for this one and even if it was a total impulse buy, I don’t regret it at all! This is MAC’s Velvet Teddy, and it’s a perfect color, a nude that suits my lips beautifully in a matte finish that isn’t drying but stays all day. Sometimes I have trouble not wearing it every day!

From top to bottom: Hot Tango, Perrie, Light It Up, Impassioned and Velvet Teddy.

So that was it for today! I hope you guys liked hearing about some of my favorite lipsticks. I’m planning a lipstick stash post at one point sooner or later, but it’ll have to be broken down in six or seven parts, so it’ll be a while. Don’t forget to head over to Lucie’s blog and read her post!

Doing a collab with Lucie was so fun, I loved chatting about what we could do it on and all our brainstorming sessions! If you don’t follow this girl already, you absolutely need to — she was one of the first people I followed on here, and she’s just so sweet and nice to everyone! And if anyone would like to do a collab, just let me know, I’m always down for more!

What are your favorite lipsticks in these colors? Let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to follow me on instagram and twitter.
